Albumin coating of magnetic nanoparticles for imaging, tracking and delivery through biological barriers.

The advent of nanotechnology in biotechnology and medicine has accelerated the development of nanomaterials as innovative tools for diagnostics, therapy, and drug delivery. Despite their versatility, many nanoparticle systems fail in vivo due to their limited ability to traverse biological barriers, resulting in off-target distribution, rapid clearance, or undesired bioaccumulation. Structural parameters-including size and surface chemistry-critically shape nanoparticle biodistribution and fate. Albumin, the most abundant serum protein, naturally acts as a long-circulating carrier capable of t

Deep learning motion correction of quantitative stress perfusion cardiovascular magnetic resonance.

BACKGROUND: Quantitative stress perfusion cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is a valuable tool for assessing myocardial ischemia. Motion correction is a crucial step in automated quantification pipelines, especially for high-resolution pixel-wise mapping. Established methods for motion correction, based on image registration, are computationally intensive and sensitive to changes in image acquisitions, necessitating more efficient and robust solutions. METHODS: This study developed and evaluated an unsupervised deep learning-based motion correction pipeline. Based on a previously descri

Composition-Driven Control of Magnetic Anisotropy in Hybrid Organic-Inorganic Metal Halides.

Two-dimensional (2D) magnetic materials provide a fertile platform for exploring low-dimensional magnetism and anisotropy-driven magnetic ordering, yet achieving continuous and controllable tuning of magnetic anisotropy remains a significant challenge. Here, we report a systematic chemical strategy to modulate magnetic anisotropy in a family of quasi-2D-layered hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites, (PEA)2Mn1-xCuxCl4 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1). Single crystals spanning the full compositional range were grown via a slow evaporation method, yielding phase-pure materials that exhibit continuous solid-solution be

The Effects of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation on Tryptophan Metabolism and Depressive-Like Behavior in Mice.

OBJECTIVE: This research seeks to explore the effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) as an intervention on a depression mouse model and its impact on blood tryptophan metabolism. METHODS: In this study, 24 mice were randomly divided into three groups: Sham, CUMS, and CUMS + rTMS, with each group comprising eight mice. The depression model was established using the chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) method. High-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) was employed to measure the levels of tryptophan and its metabolites in the mice's

Functional Repurposing of Magnetic Nanoparticle-Assisted Hyperthermia for Immune Cell Labelling and Tracking.

Immune cell therapies show promise in hematologic malignancies and are becoming more effective in solid tumors like lungs, melanoma, and colorectal cancers. Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are mostly used as tracers via magnetic particle imaging(MPI) or magnetic resonance imaging(MRI), and heat mediators to monitor and kill cancer cells via magnetic hyperthermia (MHT). Here, we apply a mild-MHT protocol (38-41°C/60 min) as a new means to boost MNPs uptake by immune cells under a harmless alternating magnetic field (AMF). Various MNPs formulations, including iron oxide or zinc-ferrite composition

Three-dimensional aggregation dynamics of magnetic Janus colloids with radially shifted dipoles.

Magnetic Janus colloids whose permanent dipole moments are radially shifted from the particle center exhibit broken interaction symmetry that alters self-assembly in fully three-dimensional suspensions. Using Brownian dynamics simulations of dilute, field-free systems, we examine how the radial dipolar shift s and the dipolar coupling strength λ affect nucleation, growth kinetics, orientational ordering, and cluster morphology. Across the simulated parameter range, aggregation follows a two-stage nucleation-growth scenario: an initial delayed nucleation stage is followed by sustained growth, a

Magnet-Assisted Transanal Removal of a Rectal Foreign Body in a Child: A Case Report.

Management of rectal foreign bodies, uncommon in children, aims to achieve safe, minimally invasive removal while avoiding anesthesia or surgery whenever possible. We report a rare pediatric case of a rectal foreign body successfully removed using a magnet-assisted transanal technique. To our knowledge, this technique has not been previously reported in pediatric patients. A 10-year-old girl with a developmental disability inserted an AAA battery into her rectum. She was asymptomatic on arrival. Pelvic radiography revealed a single cylindrical rectal foreign body. Considering the object type,

Study on the regulatory effect of magnetic vestibular stimulation on visually induced motion sickness.

Visually induced motion sickness (VIMS) is a common adverse effect of virtual reality (VR). Magnetic vestibular stimulation (MVS) may modulate vestibular function, but its effect on VIMS remains unclear. This study examined whether different MVS intensities were associated with changes in VIMS symptoms and resting-state EEG network characteristics in healthy participants exposed to VR. Twenty healthy young adults completed five repeated-measures sessions: normal/non-VR, VR-only, and VR combined with MVS at 90%, 100%, and 110% of individual resting motor threshold (rMT). VIMS symptoms were asse

Magnetically Repulsive Cushion Triboelectric Nanogenerator for Rotating Machinery Structural Health Monitoring.

Rotor imbalance and abnormal vibration are classical operating conditions in rotating machinery and can often be identified by conventional vibration analysis. However, the development of low-power, self-powered, and distributed sensing nodes remains important for long-term condition monitoring, particularly in scenarios where external power supply, wiring, and maintenance are constrained. Existing vibration sensors, including piezoelectric and capacitive types, are constrained by power consumption and degraded performance under low-frequency and weak excitation. To address this issue, a magne

[Pediatric mild traumatic brain injury: strengths and limitations of magnetic resonance imaging].

Each year, 2.7 million children worldwide sustain a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), a condition that may disrupt neurodevelopmental trajectories and lead to long-lasting consequences, particularly during periods of heightened brain plasticity. This review summarizes advanced MRI sequences and their contributions to improving prognosis and preventing long-term sequelae following pediatric mTBI. Although studies consistently report persistent alterations, their interpretation remains limited by developmental variability, the underrepresentation of young children, and methodological heterogen

Agreement and reproducibility of quantitative values depend on acquisition parameters in magnetic resonance fingerprinting.

This study evaluated the effects of acquisition parameters on relaxation times measured using magnetic resonance fingerprinting (MRF). MRF enables the simultaneous acquisition of multiple quantitative maps by varying the flip angle (FA) and repetition time (TR) in a pseudo-random manner and by pattern-matching signal evolutions to a pre-calculated dictionary. To assess parameter dependency, multiple acquisition protocols were generated with varying numbers of echoes (500, 1000, 1500, and 3000), TR widths (12-14 ms, 12-17 ms, and 12-20 ms), and maximum FA ranges using the MRF Development Kit. A Deep Learning-Based Approach for the Diagnostic of Brucellar Spondylitis in Magnetic Resonance Images.

Brucellar spondylitis (BS), a prevalent zoonotic disease caused by Brucella, poses a significant global health threat. Accurate and timely diagnosis of BS is crucial for effective treatment; however, no specialized deep learning model has been developed for detecting BS in MR images. In this study, we proposed Brucella Spondylitis MRI Diagnosis Network (BSMRINet), a fully automated diagnostic framework designed for the detection of BS from T2-weighted (T2W) MR images. The model was developed and validated using 582 cohorts collected from four hospitals between January 2018 and August 2023. The

Measurement of the wear volumes generated within retrieved magnetically controlled growing rods.

Magnetically controlled growing rods are used for the surgical treatment of early onset scoliosis. However, one of the key concerns around the use of these rods is the extensive titanium alloy metallosis seen at revision surgery. To quantify the wear causing this metallosis, for the first time the internal wear volumes from magnetically controlled growing rods have been measured. A cohort of 30 retrieved rods was measured, from 18 cases (6 single rods and 12 dual rod constructs) after an average time in vivo of 1120 days. Another pair of rods explanted after 30 days due to infection served as

Active vibration suppression of a magnetic-ball bearing hybrid supported rotor system.

The vibration problem caused by milling is a key factor restricting high-precision and high-efficiency machining. Traditional passive vibration suppression methods are limited by fixed structural parameters and lack sufficient adaptability to dynamic operating conditions, making it difficult to achieve effective broadband vibration control. Magnetic bearings, with their non-contact characteristics and active controllability, provide a new idea for milling vibration suppression. To overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a novel hybrid magnetic-ball-supported flexible rotor system that

An Asymmetric Magnetic Hydrogel With Mild Magnetothermal Effect for Safe and Efficient Bone Repair.

Repair of craniofacial bone defects remains highly challenging due to the region's complex anatomy close to vital brain marrow tissue. How to make a safe and efficient repair without disturbing surrounding tissues is critical, especially in external-stimulus-enhanced regeneration strategy. Magnetic hyperthermia therapy (MHT), due to its ability of uniform heat generation and good penetration, has gained increasing attention in bone repair. An asymmetric magnetic microspheres hybrid hydrogel was developed with magnetothermal responsiveness for targeted heating at the defect, preventing the risk

A High-Performance Conformal Metamaterial for 1.5 T Wrist Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Improving the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is crucial for enhancing image quality and diagnostic reliability in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, traditional methods that rely on increasing the number of coil channels are approaching their physical and engineering optimization limits. In recent years, wireless, passive metamaterials have been explored for local magnetic field enhancement via radiofrequency field modulation, offering a new pathway to improve SNR. However, the regular configurations of most existing metamaterial structures hinder their conformance to anatomical contours,
