Clinical evidence for low-molecular-weight collagen peptides in tendon and ligament tears: a systematic review with narrative synthesis.

BACKGROUND: Low-molecular-weight hydrolyzed collagen peptides are increasingly used as adjuncts in musculoskeletal medicine, but their clinical role in tendon and ligament injuries remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate clinical evidence on oral or injectable hydrolyzed collagen peptides, or related low-molecular-weight peptide preparations, in tendon and ligament injuries and post-repair/reconstruction settings. METHODS: A systematic review with narrative synthesis was conducted using PubMed and a mirrored Scopus strategy through 17 March 2026. Eligible studies were human clinical studies

Aging Biology of Bone-to-Tendon Healing and the Epigenetic Clock: A Biological-Age Readout of Rotator Cuff Healing Capacity.

The "unexplained failure" of rotator cuff repair is multifactorial, but its structural endpoint is anatomically consistent, i.e., the failure of the tendon-to-bone interface (enthesis) to heal. The native enthesis is a four-zone fibrocartilaginous gradient that does not regenerate but heals as a mechanically inferior fibrovascular scar, so the outcome of repair hinges on the interface's healing capacity-which chronological age predicts poorly. This review organizes the aging biology governing bone-to-tendon healing capacity into eight domains: progenitor competence, cellular senescence and the

Low quality evidence supports surgery for gluteal tendon tears, no non-surgical evidence was identified: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Gluteal tendon tears (GTT) are associated with significant morbidity, similar to end stage, hip osteoarthritis. To date, there is unclear evidence as to what best management for GTT constitutes, and what are the subsequent outcomes for the different management approaches (surgical, non-surgical). The purpose of this systematic review is to document treatments, synthesise evidence, and assess the quality of available evidence regarding the treatments and outcomes associated with symptomatic GTT. METHODS: A systematic review was conducted according to PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Item

Clinical and functional outcomes of arthroscopic release with or without latissimus dorsi tendon transfer in obstetric brachial plexus palsy.

Internal rotation contractures of the shoulder are common sequelae of obstetric brachial plexus palsy (OBPP) and can markedly impair upper limb function. Although arthroscopic capsular release improves passive range of motion (ROM), tendon transfer may be needed to improve active external rotation and abduction. This study compared clinical and functional outcomes after isolated arthroscopic release versus arthroscopic release combined with latissimus dorsi tendon transfer. Thirty-two pediatric patients surgically treated for OBPP-related shoulder contracture between 2018 and 2024 were retrosp

Protein synthesis in collagenous and non-collagenous fractions of human patellar tendon: Influence of tendinopathy and short-term exercise.

The dynamics of human tendon protein synthesis in response to short-term exercise and injury is poorly understood, and whether this occurs h … 0 males) and 18 healthy, matched participants (8 females and 10 males) were included. Both patellar tendons investigated in all participants, and the healthy participants additionally completed three bouts of unilateral heavy resistance training prior to biopsy sampling. Tendon protein synthesis rates were markedly higher (10-20 fold) in the soluble matri …

Clinical Application of Turnover Lengthening of the Palmaris Longus Tendon in Modified Camitz Opponensplasty for Severe Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Camitz opponensplasty performed for severe carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is sometimes complicated during the dissection of palmar aponeurosis, and it is difficult to obtain sufficient length and strength of the transition tendon. In this study, we modified the Camitz procedure and devised a tendon-lengthening approach that does not involve the palmar aponeurosis. We evaluated this procedure clinically. METHODS: Our study included 11 patients with severe CTS and opposable thumb dysfunction. All patients underwent the same modified Camitz procedure including turnover lengthening of t

Evaluation of Microvascular Flow Imaging and Power Doppler Ultrasonography in an Equine Model of Induced Superficial Digital Flexor Tendonitis.

Superficial digital flexor tendon (SDFT) injuries are common in athletic horses and are associated with prolonged healing and high reinjury rates. Conventional ultrasonography provides structural information but limited physiologic assessment. This study compared microvascular imaging (MVI) and Power Doppler (PD) for evaluating vascular changes in a collagenase-induced equine SDFT injury model and assessed the effect of scanning technique on vascular signal detection. Eight adult Thoroughbred horses underwent bilateral collagenase-induced SDFT injury, with one forelimb randomly assigned to int

Superficial band of the quadriceps tendon harvested with a minimally invasive technique provides adequate graft dimensions: a cadaveric study.

INTRODUCTION: This study explored a minimally invasive technique for harvesting the superficial band of the quadriceps tendon. By using a conventional graft tendon stripper, the procedure aims to obtain the full length of tendon fibers necessary for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. The study aimed to determine if this technique can produce grafts of sufficient length and diameter. METHODS: From September to October 2023, we conducted a study using full-body Thiel-embalmed cadavers over 18 years of age without pathology-related alterations in lower limb anatomy. The mid-diamete

Radiological anatomy of the trochlear spine and associated bony structures around the superior oblique tendon: a CT-based study.

The superior oblique muscle tendon is known to bend in the anterior orbit around a cartilaginous trochlea. The site where the tendon bends is frequently interested by the presence of a small depression, the trochlear fovea, and/or the trochlear spine. Exact topography, size and frequency of these items are still undetermined. For this purpose, we studied 120 orbits of individuals that underwent computed tomography for pathologies not involving the anterior orbit. We detected the presence of the trochlear spine in 10% of orbits and we determined its location and size. We also observed the prese

Evaluation of the donor site defect after harvesting the medial third of the patellar tendon in ACL reconstruction: An MRI study.

PURPOSE: Previous studies have reported magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) changes in the donor-site defect size following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) using the middle third of the patellar tendon (mid-third patellar tendon ACLR); however, no corresponding reports exist for ACLR using the medial third of the patellar tendon (medial-third patellar tendon ACLR). This study aimed to assess the changes in donor-site defect size postoperatively in medial-third ACLR patients and hypothesized a clinically relevant MRI change within the first year. METHODS: Twenty-two consecutive p
