Experiences of the attention training technique delivered in groups as treatment for anxiety and depression in patients with coronary heart disease: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Clinically significant anxiety and depression symptoms are common in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and associated with a range of negative outcomes. Preliminary evidence suggests that the attention training technique (ATT), a component of metacognitive therapy (MCT), delivered in a group format, is feasible and potentially effective in reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression in these patients. Patients' experiences of treatment including facilitators and barriers are useful in order to further develop effective intervention. We are not aware of any previous qualita

Dropout From Trauma-Focused Treatment for Intimate Partner Violence Against Women.

The current study aimed to analyze the characteristics, and the factors associated with dropout from a trauma-focused (TF) cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) tailored for intimate partner violence against women (IPVAW) that has been shown to be effective. Ninety-one female survivors of IPVAW entered a randomized controlled trial comparing two versions of the TF-CBT, both delivered in eight weekly sessions and group format. A total of 37.4% of women who entered treatment dropped out during treatment; an additional 7.1% dropped out after randomization and before starting treatment. There were n

Considerations for Spiritually Integrated Cognitive Processing Therapy (SICPT) for PTSD and Posttraumatic Growth in Survivors of Interpersonal Trauma.

Traumatic events profoundly disrupt individuals' psychological, physical, social, and spiritual well-being; yet, they may also lead to posttraumatic growth (PTG). Spirituality has been shown to play a central role in how trauma survivors find meaning, cope, and rebuild their lives. However, most evidence-based interventions (EBIs) for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), including cognitive processing therapy (CPT), often neglect spiritual and religious (RS) dimensions, limiting their relevance for spiritually oriented clients. The aim of this paper is to present a rationale for integrating s

Fear of Food in Eating Disorders: Its Role in Eating Disorder Symptomatology, Psychopathology, and Early Outpatient Treatment.

Anxiety is known to be correlated with eating disorder (ED) symptoms, but less is known about anxiety in terms of fear of food in EDs. The study aims to compare different ED groups, investigate early changes in fear of food following cognitive-behavioral-based treatment (CBT) with integrated nutritional rehabilitation and counseling and test whether changes in fear of food are associated with changes in eating symptomatology and general psychopatology. ED outpatients (n = 282) and controls (n = 68) were assessed with the Fear of Food Measure (FOFM), Eating Attitude Test-40 (EAT-40), and Eating

Birthing parents' perceptions of an online peer-delivered 1-day cognitive-behavioural therapy-based workshop for postpartum depression added to usual care.

PROBLEM: Postpartum depression affects as many as 20 % of birthing parents, with most preferring to be treated with psychotherapy. BACKGROUND: An increasing number of these individuals would like to receive support from those with lived experience of postpartum depression. Emerging evidence suggests that peer-administered interventions can reduce symptoms of depression in the postpartum period. AIM: The purpose of this convergent parallel mixed methods study was to explore how birthing parents (n = 405) who participated in a randomised controlled trial of an online peer-delivered 1-day cogni

Effectiveness of a spiritual adaptation of cognitive behavioural therapy in improving resilience, self-esteem and spirituality among clients with opioid use disorder: A quasi-experimental study.

UNLABELLED: WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: Opioid use disorder (OUD) is a prevalent problem among Egyptian youth, and achieving recovery and abstinence is challenging. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), a well-known approach, can be particularly beneficial when it addresses psychological aspects such as resilience and self-esteem. WHAT DOES THE PAPER ADD TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE?: Our research is recognized as a trailblazer in integrating a spiritual adaptation of CBT with spiritual elements for treating patients with OUD in the Egyptian context. This innovative approach marks a significant adv

Augmentation of cognitive-behavioural therapy for obsessive-compulsive and anxiety disorders: a protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: While cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety disorders (ADs) has been proven to be effective and is commonly recommended, a considerable proportion of patients remain symptomatic, do not respond to treatment or discontinue it. Thus, augmentation strategies aimed at enhancing CBT outcomes are essential to reduce the burden of OCD and ADs on patients and society. Various augmentation strategies for CBT in OCD and ADs have been investigated, yet it remains unclear if they show robust beneficial effects beyond first-line CBT. With this

Fear of negative and positive evaluation as mediators and moderators of treatment outcome in social anxiety disorder.

INTRODUCTION: Elevated fear of negative evaluation (FNE) and fear of positive evaluation (FPE) are thought to play key roles in the maintenance of social anxiety disorder (SAD). Although efficacious therapies exist for SAD, the potential mediating and moderating effects of FNE and FPE on social anxiety treatment outcome have not been examined. METHODS: This sample comprised a secondary analysis of 210 individuals who participated in one of three randomized controlled trials for the treatment of SAD. Participants were randomized to: individual cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), group CBT, com…

Social anxiety and attentional bias to negative emotional information: the relationship and intervention.

BACKGROUND: According to the cognitive behavioral model of social anxiety, attentional bias to negative emotional information causes and maintains anxiety. The goal of attentional bias modification (ABM) is to reduce anxiety by reducing attention bias to negative emotional information. METHOD: We used questionnaires and experiments to explore the improvement effect of ABM training on social anxiety in college students. In Study 1, we used dot-probe tasks to investigate the attentional bias to negative emotional information and the relationship with social anxiety severity in college students.

Protecting Emergency Responders with Evidence-Based Interventions (PEREI): protocol for a randomized controlled trial for early career emergency responders, significant others, and supervisors.

Background: Emergency service personnel perform roles associated with high levels of trauma exposure and stress, and not surprisingly experience greater risk for poor mental health including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and substance use relative to the general population. Although programs exist to minimise the risk of developing mental health problems, their efficacy to date has been limited or untested. We will test the efficacy of the three programs which form PEREI: Protecting Emergency Responders with Evidence-Based Interventions. PEREI consists of modified

Digital cognitive stimulation in elderly breast cancer patients: the Cog-Tab-Age feasibility study.

BACKGROUND: Elderly cancer patients often experience cognitive difficulties that can affect their quality of life and autonomy. However, they are rarely included in clinical trials, and only one study has explored the feasibility of cognitive training in this population. While digital cognitive training has been successful in improving cognition in younger patients, its feasibility in elderly patients requires evaluation. OBJECTIVES: This feasibility study primarily focused on evaluating patients' ability to use digital cognitive stimulation (usability). Secondary objectives were to evaluate

Business case for psychosocial interventions in clinics: potential for decrease in treatment discontinuation and costs.

RESEARCH QUESTION: From a value-based healthcare (VBHC) perspective, does an assessment of clinical outcomes and intervention costs indicate that providing cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or mindfulness to women seeking fertility treatment add value compared with no such intervention? DESIGN: Proof-of-concept business case based on a VBHC perspective that considers clinical outcomes and costs. Potential effects on psychological and fertility outcomes were based on existing research. Cost outcomes were estimated with a costing model for the Dutch fertility treatment setting. RESULTS: Thir
