Multiple neurofibromas, schwannomas, and hyperplastic enteric plexuses were observed in the distal jejunum and ileum of a 6-year-old pinto gelding. The animal was presented because of an acute episode of colic. Three meters of distal small intestine, partially incarcerated in the epiploic foramen, were surgically removed. The aim of this study was to determine whether the evaluation of lower urinary dysfunction with urodynamics and urethrocystoscopy provides unique information that is missed by urodynamics alone. Small bowel obstruction, excluding postoperative adhesive ileus, in patients > 1 month old treated between June 1982 and May 1992 at Gunma Children's Hospital Medical Center is reviewed. There were 32 patients, 22 boys and 10 girls, whose ages ranged from 1 month to 6 years (median 9 months). The major objective of diagnostic laparotomy in Hodgkin's disease is to define the extent of involvement not detectable by nonoperative means. Fifty patients in this institution had operative staging procedures; six for recurrent disease three to 11 years after initial therapy. Twenty-four patients had nodular sclerosis, 23 mixed cellularity, and three had other types. The clinical stages were advanced in 13 patients and decreased in seven patients. Two patients (both had mixed cellularity and systemic symptoms) had positive wedge biopsy of the liver, whereas direct needle biopsy was negative.

METHODS: From January 1992 to August 1995, we performed 86 laparoscopic procedures in pediatric patients.
