PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to describe the experiences of adolescents with implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs).
DESIGN AND METHODS: This qualitative study explored the lived experiences of 14 adolescents with ICDs using face-to-face, semistructured interviews.
RESULTS: Six themes were identified: life interrupted; still the same, except; sometimes it's tough; it cuts both ways; unique joule; and living life regular.
PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: These findings suggest that nurses could make a significant impact on the lives of adolescents with ICDs by focusing their efforts

BACKGROUND: In Germany, 80-90% of people require palliative care in the final stages of life. Inpatient care facilities are increasingly becoming the final place of residence for many people, and therefore also often their place of death. Inadequate identification of palliative care needs can result in substandard palliative care in nursing homes, where residents are often admitted to the hospital towards the end of their lives. This study investigated whether a special palliative care qualifications for nursing staff could improve the care for residents in inpatient care facilities.

OBJECTIVES: Nursing interns often experience high levels of death anxiety and stress, which can reduce their comfort and confidence in caring for dying patients. This study evaluated the effects of an 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program on death anxiety, perceived stress, and attitudes toward care of the dying among nursing interns during palliative and oncology rotations.
METHODS: A quasi-experimental pre-post design was used with 120 final-year Bachelor of Science in nursing interns at Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia. Participants completed the 8-we

BACKGROUND: As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly integrated into healthcare, nurses need to recognise and respond to its ethical implications. However, validated Chinese-language instruments for assessing nurses' ethical awareness of AI use remain limited. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and psychometrically evaluate the Chinese version of the Nurses' AI Ethical Awareness Scale.
METHODS: A methodological study was conducted among 455 nurses from a tertiary hospital in Shenzhen, China, between December 2025 and January 2026. The original scale was translated an

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: Beta-blockers, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors), angiotensin-II-receptor-blockers (ARB), and mineralocorticoid-receptor antagonists decrease mortality and heart failure (HF) hospitalizations in HF patients with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction. The effect is dose-dependent. Careful titration is recommended. However, suboptimal doses are common in clinical practice. This study aimed to compare the safety and efficacy of dose titration of the aforementioned drugs by HF nurses vs HF cardiologists.

INTRODUCTION: Brazil's national strategy for cervical cancer screening includes using the Papanicolaou (Pap) test every 3 years among women aged 25-64 years. Comprehensive primary care services are provided through a network of primary health units, but little is known about cervical cancer-related knowledge, attitudes, and practices among health professionals and coordinators working in these facilities.
METHODS: In 2011, we conducted a cross-sectional nationally representative phone survey of 1,600 primary health care units to interview one unit coordinator and one health care professional

PURPOSE: In Japan, concerns exist regarding the dangers inherent when handling cytotoxic drugs, particularly drugs such as 5-FU, Thiotepa, Cytarabine, Tegaful, and Sizofiran which are contained in ampoules or vials, since nurses and medical doctors have been preparing these cytotoxic drugs in the open spaces of wards in the absence of appropriate garments and personal protective equipment. In addition, the administration tubes for these dangerous drugs have been exchanged at the patients' bedside, typically in rooms shared by several patients. To gain insight into the severity of the occupatio

BACKGROUND: One of the most common complaints of nursing mothers in a few days after delivery is insufficient lactation. This is known to be partly due to the mothers' deficient knowledge of proper breastfeeding and often results in the beginning of bottlefeeding, which finally diminishes or ceases their breastfeeding. Considering the valuable effects of breastfeeding on nutritional, immunologic, and emotional aspects of infants' health, we planned this study to find out whether training of nursing mothers for breastfeeding can enhance their lactation; also, we tried to compare the effects of

BACKGROUND: Patient portal messaging has emerged as a critical tool in primary care, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, facilitating asynchronous communication between patients and providers. The surge in portal messages during the pandemic has exacerbated work overload and burnout among primary care providers.
OBJECTIVE: To enhance primary care clinic portal message workflow efficiency by identifying barriers through surveys and interviews, then implementing interventions to address challenges and streamline processes.
DESIGN: We used a pre- and post-intervention with concurrent con

BACKGROUND: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) brings significant human and healthcare costs. Its progressive nature means achieving normoglycaemia is increasingly difficult, yet critical to avoiding long term vascular complications. Nearly one-half of people with T2D have glycaemic levels out of target. Insulin is effective in achieving glycaemic targets, yet initiation of insulin is often delayed, particularly in primary care. Given limited access to specialist resources and the size of the diabetes epidemic, primary care is where insulin initiation must become part of routine practice. This would also s

INTRODUCTION: There is ample documentation that use of hospital emergency facilities for reasons other than urgencies/emergencies results in clogged services in many urban centers. However, little has been published about similar misuse of emergency rooms/departments in rural and remote areas, where the situation is usually compounded by a scarcity of healthcare professionals. In Canada there is a shortage of physicians in rural and remote areas as a consequence of misdistribution (most physicians staying in southern urban centers after residence), and there is a chronic misuse of facilities m
