The results of the surgical anterior approach to the cervical spine are marked in a number of cases by dysphagia and dysphonia, especially when the approach is extensive or performed at the upper cervical spine. 35 cadaver dissections were performed to define the topography of the nerve structures during operative exposure at various vertebral levels: superior and recurrent laryngeal nerves, hypoglossal nerve and its superior root of the ansa cervicalis. The authors suggest some technical improvements, for each stage of surgical dissection.

Fractures of the scapula are often considered benign lesions with a favorable outcome. The aim of the current study was to analyze the long-term results after fracture of the muscle-covered parts of the scapula: its body, neck, and spine. Five linear and 2 angular measurements on each of C3 to T1 in a sample of 67 human skeletons were used to examine 3 hypotheses about the function of uncinate processes and zygapophysial joints in the cervical vertebral column. The material was sexed and each vertebra was rated for pathological changes. The effects of gender and pathology on the measures was assessed. The upper 4 vertebrae studied had the largest disc-facet angles, supporting the view that the articular facet orientation is responsible for the greater intervertebral disc translation occurring during sagittal motion in the neck.

In the work are presented the results of echocardiographic investigation of 19 patients (aged 11-15) with kyphoscoliotic spine deformities at the Marfan's syndrome. In the present report there has been pursued an object of studying the efficiency of the preparation dalargine (synthetic preparation, analogous to encephaline) in case of unstable spine and spinal cord injuries. Under the observation there were 32 operated patients. Dalargine was administered endolumbally by 2 mg, dissolved in 2 ml of physiologic salt solution. The results were evaluated by several categories: locomotive function, sensitivity, pelvic organ function, pain, spasticity, trophic disturbances.

Seventy consecutive patients with injuries of the thoracic and lumbar spine accompanied by neurological deficit were prospectively studied and follow-up. In 40 of these patients with a burst fracture, the degree of involvement of the cross-sectional area of the spinal canal, as revealed on first CT after admission, was not correlated with the type and degree of initial neurological deficit.
