Mitochondrial DNA copy number mediates PPD-Qs-induced lipid level alterations in humans.

In recent years, human exposure to p-phenylenediamine-derived quinone (PPD-Qs) has attracted great attention due to their potential toxic effects on humans. While, their potential health risks to the lipid metabolism in humans remain inadequately elucidated. This cross-sectional study analyzed blood samples for six PPD-Qs, lipid profiles, and mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNAcn), and investigated the association between PPD-Q exposure and lipid levels in a population-based cohort comprising 255 healthy Chinese adults. Results showed that PPD-Qs in human serum was dominated by 6PPD-Q (mean 1

Integrative assessment of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein and lipid levels in predicting 20-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk, in a Mediterranean population: The ATTICA study (2002-2022).

BACKGROUND: While inflammation is recognized as an independent risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), with high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) serving as a prognostic indicator, the degree to which elevated hs-CRP combined with different atherogenic lipid measures increases long-term ASCVD risk remains unclear in primary prevention cohorts of Mediterranean origin, who exhibit a comparatively favorable inflammatory profile due to lifestyle and dietary habits. Thus, this study aimed to examine the association between combined hs-CRP and various atherogenic lipid

Enhancing the Outgrowth of Oral Mucosal Cell Sheets for Cultivated Rabbit Oral Mucosal Epithelial Transplantation with ROCK Inhibitor.

PURPOSE: Cultivated oral mucosal epithelial transplantation (COMET) is an effective way to treat limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD), but its clinical usage is limited due to prolonged cultivation time and complexity. Rho-associated protein kinase (ROCK) inhibitors have been found to enhance cell proliferation, migration, and cytoskeleton maintenance. We investigated whether ROCK inhibitor (Y-27632) can be used to enhance the growth of oral mucosal epithelial cell sheet while remaining their characteristics, optimizing COMET usage for LSCD treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Oral mucosal epithel

Machine learning-based evaluation of lipid biomarkers for cardiovascular risk prediction in chronic kidney disease: A cross-sectional study.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an important public health issue globally, greatly increasing the prevalence and mortality of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Dyslipidemia is a prevalent metabolic disease in people with CKD that is linked to atherosclerosis and cardiovascular events. Nevertheless, the association between various lipid markers and CVD is still uncertain. This study aimed to analyze the associations between various lipid markers and CVD in patients with CKD using machine learning methods and to identify the optimal lipid biomarkers for risk prediction. This study analyzed 2696 CKD

Associations of NHHR change patterns and cumulative NHHR with incident cardiovascular disease among individuals with CKM stages 0-3.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome stages 0-3 are free of clinical cardiovascular disease (CVD) but may already have metabolic and renal abnormalities that increase CVD susceptibility. This makes them a distinct target population for early risk stratification. Although non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (NHHR) potentially reflects atherogenic lipid burden, its association with incident CVD in CKM stages 0-3 remains unclear. METHODS: Data were obtained from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal

Place preference in a female adolescent rat model of neuropathic pain: The effects of cannabidiol and oxycodone on cerebellum cell density.

RATIONALE : Pain reflects an integration of sensation, cognition, and affect, whereas chronic pain is associated with maladaptation. The cerebellum is increasingly recognised as a contributor to pain, especially towards affective-motivational facets, including relief-seeking from aversive experiences. Few have specifically investigated this, and much less in females, despite the notable prevalence of chronic pain in this population. OBJECTIVES : To examine preference to seek cannabidiol- or oxycodone-analgesia, and cellular changes to the cerebellum in a female adolescent rat model of neuropat

Glial cell mapping in the camel cerebellar cortex: a histochemical and immunohistochemical study.

The cerebellum is involved in numerous motor functions, the adaptation and execution of smooth complex voluntary and fine movements. Glial cells are essential for maintaining healthy neurons. Studying the camel cerebellum was neglected even in recent research even in the Middle East and Asia where camels are reared. Therefore, we investigated the glia in camel cerebellum employing histochemical and immunohistochemical staining using GFAP, Olig2, S-100 and Iba1 for astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, Bergmann glia and fibrous astrocytes, and microglia, respectively. The camel cerebellum was collected

Metabolic factors moderate the association between hepatic fibrosis and atherosclerotic cardiovascular risk in type 2 diabetes.

INTRODUCTION: Hepatic fibrosis caused by metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) predicts adverse atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) outcomes in the general patient population. However, it is unclear whether this association extends to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients, who have distinct metabolic profiles and high comorbidity of both MASLD and ASCVD. To address this gap, we investigated the association between hepatic fibrosis caused by MASLD and ASCVD risk in T2DM patients as well as potentially moderators of this association.
