Bifocal Avulsion of the Patellar Tendon From the Distal Patella and Tibial Tuberosity in a Skeletally Immature Patient: A Case Report.

CASE: A 13-year-old boy suffered a sports injury of the right knee. The clinical examination showed swelling, inability to bear weight, and pain involving the inferior apex of the patella and the anterior tibial tuberosity. Imaging studies showed an avulsion fracture, sleeve-like, from the patella apex and avulsion of the tibial tuberosity. The patient underwent open reduction and internal fixation. At the 24-month follow-up, no pain, limitation, or complication was reported. CONCLUSIONS: Bifocal patellar tendon avulsion in a skeletally immature patient is an extremely rare injury, and to our

Anterior cruciate ligament injuries treated with quadriceps tendon autograft versus hamstring autograft: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: One of the most common grafts used to repair anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture is the hamstring tendon (HT) autograft. However, another proposed option to repair the ACL is the quadriceps tendon (QT) autograft. This study aimed to compare the pain and clinical results between patients with ACL injury treated with QT autograft and with HT autograft. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The Ethics and Investigation Committee of our institution approved the study. The patients were randomized into two groups: one group was treated with QT autograft and the other group was treated with HT au

Monitoring Muscle-Tendon Adaptation Over Several Years of Athletic Training and Competition in Elite Track and Field Jumpers.

Differences in muscle and tendon responsiveness to mechanical stimuli and time courses of adaptive changes may disrupt the interaction of the musculotendinous unit (MTU), increasing the risk for overuse injuries. We monitored training-induced alterations in muscle and tendon biomechanical properties in elite jumpers over 4 years of athletic training to detect potential non-synchronized adaptations within the triceps surae MTU. A combined cross-sectional and longitudinal investigation over 4 years was conducted by analyzing triceps surae MTU mechanical properties in both legs via dynamometry an

The mechanical and biochemical properties of tail tendon in a rat model of obesity: Effect of moderate exercise and prebiotic fibre supplementation.

The worldwide trajectory of increasing obesity rates is a major health problem precipitating a rise in the prevalence of a variety of co-morbidities and chronic diseases. Tendinopathy, in weight and non-weight bearing tendons, in individuals with overweight or obesity has been linked to metabolic dysfunction resulting from obesity. Exercise and dietary fibre supplementation (DFS) are common countermeasures to combat obesity and therefore it seems reasonable to assume that they might protect tendons from structural and mechanical damage in a diet-induced obesity (DIO) model. The purpose of this…

Local Autograft and Strong Pulvertaft Fixation Technique for Reconstruction of a Rerupture of the Extensor Hallucis Longus Tendon: A Case Report.

There are different treatment options for extensor hallucis longus injuries. For primary repair, the end-to-end suture is recommended. The treatment of reruptures or tendon defects is challenging, and a wide range of procedures have been used in this regard, including primary and secondary repairs with and without auto- and allografts. To overcome the disadvantages of second-site morbidity and to achieve high primary stability, we demonstrate a technique using a local tendon graft in combination with a strong Pulvertaft suture technique in a case of rerupture of the extensor hallucis longus te
