OBJECTIVE: To analyze the reasons on complications of treatment with elastic nail in children's long bone fracture.
METHODS: Sixty-six cases (75 parts of long bone fratures) were treated by elastic nail including 49 male and 17 female. The age ranged from 3 to 17 years, mean 7.8 years. There were 35 femur fractures (2 cases were hibateral), 20 tibia and fibula fractures (12 cases were tibia fractures), 8 radial fractures (1 case was ulna fracture) and 3 humerus fractures. This study retrospectively examines 186 patients treated for roller skating-related injuries. The average patient age was 25.3 years, with males comprising 44% and females 56% of the patients. Of the 202 injuries, there were 130 fractures and 72 soft tissue injuries. The majority of the injuries involved the wrist (47%), while the elbow ranked second (14%) and the ankle third (10%). Limited information exists to define standard tibial radiographs. The purpose of this study was to define new landmarks on the proximal tibia for standard anteroposterior and lateral radiographs. In 10 cadaveric knees, fibular head bisection was considered the anteroposterior image, and femoral condyle overlap the lateral image.
