Reports of frontal and nasal bone-involving composite midfacial bone defect reconstruction after anterior skull base tumor resection remain scarce. Here, we present the case of a 75-year-old man with recurrent ethmoid sinus carcinoma who underwent combined transcranial and endonasal endoscopic resection. The resulting defects included the anterior skull base and frontal and nasal bones. A pericranial flap was used for skull base closure, achieving rigid midfacial reconstruction in a single stage using the split outer and inner cranial bone tables harvested during craniotomy. Titanium plates we

We have studied 15 occipital, 3 frontal and one parietal cases of encephaloceles from the point of view of the etiopathogenetic, clinic and especially diagnostic problem. The diagnosis of M.E. is based on: 1) the x-ray demonstration of the bone-gap by particular projections and by tomography; 2) in the frontal M.E. the presence of face deformity, with hipertelorism and widening of nose bridge and the finding of ectopic tissue in the nose or in the oral cavity in presence of palatoschisis. Cerebral angiography and pneumoencephalography, made by tomography, are useful to show the herniated brain

A 57-year-old woman was admitted with recurrent episodes of right frontal headache. Head magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed extensive thickening and enhancement of the right frontal dura, muscle and fascia, as well as abnormal signal intensity and enhancement of bone marrow at the lesions. Synovitis-acne-pustulosis-hyperostosis osteomyelitis (SAPHO) syndrome was diagnosed based on the patient's 8-year history of treatment of palmoplantar pustulosis and abnormal accumulations in the right temporal, sternum, and left medial clavicula on bone scintigraphy. SAPHO syndrome may be associated

The authors report the first case of extensive craniocervical pneumocranium causing mass effect, without any associated extradural pneumatocele. The patient presented with frontal headaches and unusual sensations in his left ear. He was found to have large pneumocranium involving his left frontal, temporal, parietal, and occipital bones as well as the atlas. He underwent a craniectomy with replacement of the pneumatized bone with titanium mesh, and mastoidectomy with obliteration of the mastoid air cells. This case is discussed in the context of the literature to date. A review of the literatu

This study was undertaken to evaluate the association of medial displacement of the frontal bones of the fetal calvarium, the lemon sign, with open spina bifida (OSB) and to assess other pathologic findings associated with this change. During the past 8 years, 8 cases of OSB were seen in our institution. The lemon sign was retrospectively identified in 6/6 cases of OSB scanned before 22 weeks gestation, while it was not seen in 3/3 cases examined after 26 weeks. One case was evaluated with serial studies before and after 22 weeks. Scalloping of the frontal bones was associated with a wide vari…

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the classification and distribution of external nasal fracture, and its influence to the nasal septum.
METHOD: We randomly chose 60 patients who received nasal CT scan because of nasal trauma and diagnosed as external nasal fracture. We reviewed their CT data in PACS system with computer.
RESULT: Of the 60 cases of nasal trauma, 90 sides got external nasal fracture, among which 58 sides (64.4%) had only nasal bone fracture, 16 sides (17.8%) had only maxillary frontal process fracture, and 16 sides (17.8%) had both. Half of these 60 patients got unilateral external n

The purpose of this study was to describe the computed tomographic (CT) features of nasal aspergillosis in dogs. Initial (n = 35) and follow-up (n = 12) CT images were available from 35 dogs. The most commonly encountered CT findings were (1) moderate to severe cavitary destruction of the turbinates with presence of a variable amount of abnormal soft tissue in the nasal passages, (2) non-specific thickening of the mucosa adjacent to the inner surface of bones of the frontal sinus, maxillary recess and nasal cavity and, (3) thickened reactive bone. The findings were consistent with a disease in

Epidermoid cysts are rare disontogenetic tumoral lesions in the cranial compartment (1% of all intracranial tumors) and are usually located in relation to the cranial sutures; the intradiploic location is the less frequent. We report a clinical case in which the post-traumatic etiology of a frontal intradiploic epidermoid is considered. The histological findings revealed the presence of an epidermoid tumor associated with a typical foreign body inflammatory reaction, after repeated head traumas at the site of the tumour. This is the first case in whom the association between this tumoral lesio

UNLABELLED: Pneumosinus dilatans is a rare disease that most commonly occurs in young men. It is characterized by an hyperpneumatization of sinus cavities. Its etiopathogenis remains unclear. The bony and mucosal structures are normal and there is no sinus disorders associated with. Most of patients with pneumosinus dilatans present with a cosmetic complaint.
CASE REPORT: We report a new surgical technique performed in a young male with bilateral frontal pneumosinus dilatans. A Bi-coronal incision makes it possible to largely expose the anterior wall of the frontal sinus. This wall is then we

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the surgical approaches for sinonasal tumors with intracranial extension.
METHODS: Seventeen patients with intracranial invasion tumors were treated surgically by maxillectomy combined with frontal or infratemporal approaches in 11 cases, including squamous cell carcinoma 8 cases, papillocarcinoma 2 cases and meningioma 1 case. Nasofrontal bone translocation in 1 case which was a meningioma case, craniofacial approaches in 5 cases, including squamous cell carcinoma 4 cases and esthesioneuroblastoma 1 csae.

Osteomas are non-malignant tumours made of bone with sclerosis in some degree which are seen inside the bones or sticking out of them. They are not very frequent but it is not rare to see them in the paranasal cavity, specially in the frontal sinus, and they are very frequent in the temporal bone. It is presented a case through which a bibliographic review of these tumours in these places is made.

BACKGROUND: Subdorsal septal resection and radix osteotomy are distinctive surgical steps in preservation rhinoplasty.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the nasal bone thickness, the level of the septal bony-cartilaginous junction (K area), and the distances of the frontal sinus and skull base from the transverse osteotomy line in the Turkish population by means of conventional computed tomography (CT).
METHODS: A retrospective evaluation was made of 203 consecutive preoperative paranasal CT scans of patients (classified in terms of age and gender) who had undergone rhinoplas

Pott Puffy Tumor (PPT) is extremely rare, yet potentially severe condition characterized by osteomyelitis of the frontal bone associated with one or multiple subperiosteal abscesses, primarily from nasosinusitis. It is characterized by localized frontal swelling accompanied by a subperiosteal abscess. Clinicians and radiologists do not widely recognize this complication of frontal sinusitis and, hence it is likely to be overlooked in clinical practice. We describe, through this article, a unique case of frontal osteomyelitis in an immunocompromised patient, complicated by a subperiosteal orbit…

BACKGROUND: Osteomas of the paranasal sinuses are benign, slow-growing bone tumours with preferred localization in the frontal sinus. They often remain asymptomatic and are found by chance in x-ray examination. Clinical manifestations include headache and orbital complications.
CASE REPORT: We describe the case of a 54-year-old male patient who, based on an osteoma of the frontal sinus, developed an acute frontal sinusitis complicated by subdural empyema. Therapy consisted of two operative interventions.
CONCLUSIONS: Aetiogenesis of paranasal osteomas is still unclear. Inspite of their slow
