Our initial experience with surgical treatment of congenital heart disease in 141 consecutive cases without the need of hemodynamic study is described. The authors report a case of congestive heart failure as a consequence of traumatic postlumbar laminectomy arteriovenous fistula. A 49 years old female with the diagnosis of atrial septal defect was admitted at the hospital, complaining of dyspnea and peripheral edema. A hemodynamic study was performed and an arteriovenous fistula was detected between the iliac artery and vein, and arterial septal defect was excluded. Surgery for fistula closure was performed with great clinical improvement.

Partial anomalous pulmonary venous return (PAPVR) is a congenital heart anomaly in which some of the pulmonary veins return to the right atrium or one of its supplying veins instead of normally connecting with the left atrium. Quantification of left to right shunt was carried out in 15 adult patients, mean age 49 years, with a suspected ostium secundum atrial septal defect (ASD II). Radionuclide shunt quantitation correlated well with the results of right heart catheterization (r = 0.85). The radionuclide technique failed in two patients for technical reasons, but revealed no false negative or false positive results when technically satisfactory. The diagnosis was confirmed at operation. It is concluded that the radionuclide technique is a useful and reliable method which can also be used at follow-up after surgery

Corrected transposition of the great arteries is often associated with other cardiac anomalies. A case of a 20-year-old man with superoinferior ventricular heart complicating situs inversus, levo-loop and dextro-malposition (I,L,D), and double-outlet right ventricle is described. The associated anomalies were hypoplastic right ventricle, ventricular septal defect, atrial septal defect secundum, infundibular and valvular pulmonary stenosis, and mitral regurgitation.
