Impact of target depth on safety and efficacy outcomes in MR-guided focused ultrasound thalamotomy for tremor patients.

OBJECTIVE: Target depth, defined by the z-coordinate in the dorsoventral axis relative to the anterior commissure-posterior commissure axial plane of the MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) lesion, is considered to be critical for tremor improvement and the occurrence of side effects such as gait impairment. However, although different z-coordinates are used in the literature, there are no comparative studies available with information on optimal lesion placement. This study aimed to compare two different MRgFUS lesion targets (z = +2 mm vs z = 0 mm) regarding efficacy and safety outcomes.

The Focused Ultrasound Myoma Outcome Study (FUMOS); a retrospective cohort study on long-term outcomes of MR-HIFU therapy.

OBJECTIVES: Since 2004, uterine fibroids have been treated with MR-HIFU, but there are persevering doubts on long-term efficacy to date. In the Focused Ultrasound Myoma Outcome Study (FUMOS), we evaluated long-term outcomes after MR-HIFU therapy, primarily to assess the reintervention rate. METHODS: Data was retrospectively collected from 123 patients treated with MR-HIFU at our hospital from 2010 to 2017. Follow-up duration and baseline (MRI) characteristics were retrieved from medical records. Treatment failures, adverse events, and the nonperfused volume percentage (NPV%) were determined.

High-intensity focused ultrasound treatment for twin reversed arterial perfusion sequence.

Twin reversed arterial perfusion (TRAP) sequence is a serious complication of monochorionic twin pregnancies, in which arterioarterial anastomoses allow blood flow from a 'pump' fetus to an acardiac fetus via reversed flow in the latter's umbilical artery. Several trial treatments for TRAP sequence have been reported, but all of these have been invasive. We present a case of TRAP sequence in which high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) was applied to the umbilical artery of the anomalous twin at 26 weeks as a non-invasive fetal therapy. The HIFU intensity was set at approximately 2300 W/cm(2

Focused Ultrasound Ablation for Psychiatric Disorders.

Modern circuit-based neurosurgical interventions address a critical unmet need for patients with treatment-resistant psychiatric illness. Magnetic resonance-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) enables incisionless, millimeter-precision thermoablation via staged sonications with real-time monitoring, reshaping the risk-benefit profile of traditional neurosurgical interventions for psychiatric disorders. Here, we review the clinical evidence for HIFU ablation and contrast it with alternative platforms, including radiofrequency ablation, radiosurgery, laser interstitial thermal therap

Treatment of Condylomata Acuminata Using a New Non-Vapor-Generating Focused Ultrasound Method following Imiquimod 5% Cream.

Condylomata acuminata is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the world. Physical treatments include excision, cryotherapy, electrocautery and ablative CO2, and Nd:YAG laser ablation, while topical treatments include imiquimod immunotherapy and antimitotic podophyllotoxin or sinecatechins. Efficacies of all methods are low, and recurrences are very common. A new combined method is presented as a single case in a 25-year-old male patient diagnosed with numerous condylomas on the penis, scrotum, and lower abdomen. The treatment consisted of a 7-week topical monotherapy using 5% imiqui

Ultrasound-Guided High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound Combined With PD-1 Blockade in Patients With Liver Metastases From Lung Cancer: Protocol for a Single-Arm Phase 2 Trial.

BACKGROUND: While immunotherapy has revolutionized oncological management, its efficacy in lung cancer patients with liver metastases remains limited, potentially due to the unique immunosuppressive microenvironment of the liver. Local liver treatment has been shown to enhance the immunotherapy response, and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), a minimally invasive local treatment, has demonstrated promising results in combination with immunotherapy. However, clinical data regarding HIFU in lung cancer with liver metastases are limited. OBJECTIVE: We designed the HILL (Ultrasound-Guided
