OBJECTIVE: To estimate the long-term consequences of average daily intraocular pressure (IOP) and variance in patients treated with travoprost, latanoprost or timolol.

To investigate contribution of soluble interleukin-2 receptor (SIL-2R) to the clinical progress of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), SIL-2R levels were measured in the plasma of 34 patients and 34 normal controls with double antibody sandwich ELISA. We examined nine cases of adult non-T lymphoid leukemia to investigate the cell surface inducibility of interleukin 2 receptor alpha chain (IL-2R alpha) and beta chain (IL-2R beta) after in vitro culture with and without recombinant human interleukin-1 beta (rhIL-1 beta). The prognosis of patients with advanced refractory lymphoma remains poor. We have carried out a Phase II study of continuous high dose intravenous recombinant interleukin 2 alone without LAK cells in this group of patients. Eight patients have so far been treated, 4 with non-Hodgkins lymphoma and 4 with Hodgkins disease. Of the 7 evaluable patients, the maximum response observed was stable disease in 2 patients (1 with NHL and 1 with HD). The cytotoxic reactivity of lymphocytes for autologous melanoma cells was studied in a group of 13 melanoma patients. Interleukin-8 (IL-8) and the structurally related cytokines neutrophil-activating peptide-2 (NAP-2) and GRO alpha are powerful chemotactic agents for human neutrophils. Although these three chemokines act by binding to overlapping but not identical receptor subsets, the data available to date have stressed the similarities in their mechanisms of action. The present studies were undertaken to further our understanding of the signal transduction mechanisms associated with these neutrophil agonists.
