PURPOSE: Gadolinium (Gd)-based contrast agents are primarily used for contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance lymphangiography (MRL). However, overcoming venous contamination issues remains challenging. We performed preliminary tests of the feasibility of multi-detector computed tomographic lymphography (MDCT-LG) with interstitial injection of iopamidol for mapping cutaneous lymphatic drainage pathways. In 12 patients with cheilitis granulomatosa (ChG) epithelioid granulomas were histologically observed mostly within lympatic vessels. These granulomas appear to obstruct lymphatic lumina thus causing lymphostasis, lymphatic dilatation and lymphatic edema. The lack of literature concerning intraluminal localization of granulomas in cheilitis granulomatosa prompted the reporting of our observations.
