Spectral domain optical coherence tomography findings of patients with ankylosing spondylitis.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to evaluate the possible effects of (ankylosing spondylitis) AS on choroidal thickness (CT) and other retinal layers using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). METHODS: This cross-sectional study group comprised 41 AS patients and age and sex-matched 46 control subjects. None of our patients had active anterior uveitis during the measurements. We evaluated and compared CT, retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness, ganglion cell complex (GCC) thickness, focal loss volume (FLV) and global loss volume (GLV) of the participants. RESULTS: The

Neovascularized Best Disease in Child: Contribution of Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography.

Choroidal neovascularization (CNV) is a rare but severe complication in Best disease and autosomal recessive bestrophinopathy. However, the visualization of the neovascular membrane is difficult on fluorescein angiography (FA) and indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) because of dye leakage due to the accumulation of material. The authors' study reports a case series of pediatric Best disease where optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) contributed to the diagnosis of CNV and prompt treatment. Five eyes of three patients were included (two Best disease and one autosomal recessive bestr

Ocular vascular changes during pregnancy: an optical coherence tomography angiography study.

BACKGROUND: Pregnancy is a period presenting with many physiological adaptation mechanisms. One of the structures in which these mechanisms are observed is ocular tissues. The cornea, lacrimal and meibomian glands, and chorioretinal complex are all among the structures affected by changes during pregnancy. In this study we aimed to evaluate the macular and optic disc vessel density (VD) changes by Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) imaging in pregnancy. METHODS: A total of 248 eyes from 124 pregnant women and 80 eyes from 40 healthy control women were involved. Vessel densities o

Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography Evaluation of Conjunctival Vessels During Filtering Surgery.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the changes in conjunctival vascularization with optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) before and after filtering surgery and to correlate these results with filtering surgery success. METHODS: We evaluated 20 blebs of 20 patients after a first-time trabeculectomy. Conjunctival vascularization was quantified using ImageJ software. Eyes were classified into two groups according to the preoperative conjunctival vessel density: hypovascularized conjunctiva (HypoV; 10 eyes) and hypervascularized conjunctiva (HyperV; 10 eyes). The density of intraepithelial microcys

Appearance of pediatric choroidal neovascular membranes on optical coherence tomography angiography.

PURPOSE: Compared with fluorescein angiography (FA), the gold standard for diagnosing choroidal neovascularization (CNV) activity, optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is non-invasive without risks associated with fluorescein dye use, and may be especially advantageous in the diagnosis and monitoring of children with CNV. METHODS: Eight eyes from eight patients aged 12 months to 18 years were imaged with the investigational Spectralis OCTA (version 6.9, Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany) and the RTVue XR Avanti (Optovue Inc., Fremont, CA, USA). Two patients were imaged du

Noninvasive Assessment of Corneal Crosslinking With Phase-Decorrelation Optical Coherence Tomography.

PURPOSE: There is strong evidence that abnormalities in corneal biomechanical play a causal role in corneal ectasias, such as keratoconus. Additionally, corneal crosslinking (CXL) treatment, which halts progression of keratoconus, directly appeals to corneal biomechanics. However, existing methods of corneal biomechanical assessment have various drawbacks: dependence on IOP, long acquisition times, or limited resolution. Here, we present a method that may avoid these limitations by using optical coherence tomography (OCT) to detect the endogenous random motion within the cornea, which can be a

Intracranial pressure patterns in children with craniosynostosis utilizing optical coherence tomography.

BACKGROUND: Better understanding the incidence and patterns of elevated intracranial pressure (ICP) in patients with craniosynostosis may facilitate more timely intervention to alter neurocognitive outcomes. Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) of the retina can non-invasively diagnose elevated ICP, and has demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity among patients with craniosynostosis. This study sought to characterize patterns of elevated ICP among patients with craniosynostosis. METHODS: Quantitative retinal parameters were prospectively assessed in both eyes of patients w

Vascular morphology in normal skin studied with dynamic optical coherence tomography.

Dynamic optical coherence tomography (D-OCT) is a non-invasive imaging technique, suitable for the study of structural and dynamic features of cutaneous microvasculature. Studies with D-OCT have primarily focused on non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), and a reference description of healthy skin is lacking. The aim of the study was to describe the prevalence of standard microvascular features in normal skin. A total of 280 participants without skin disease were D-OCT-scanned on four body locations: three sun-exposed areas and one unexposed: forehead, back of the neck, back of the hand and medial s
