Abnormal Unilateral Dilated Perifoveal Venule Found During Observation of a Transient Vitreomacular Traction.

This case report describes a new type of perifoveal retinal vascular abnormality (RVA) incidentally discovered during a posterior vitreous d … r telangiectasia. The sequential imaging documentation during a process of PVD with central bouquet traction provides insights into the underlying mechanisms in addition to diagnosing and monitoring perifoveal RVAs. [Ophthalmic Surg Lasers Imaging Retina 2024;55:737-741.].

Combined Surgical Approach for Repair of Refractory Macular Hole in Myopic Traction Maculopathy.

Purpose: To present a combined surgical approach for repair of a persistent full-thickness macular hole (MH) in patients with myopic traction maculopathy. Methods: Two cases were evaluated. Results: Combining a macular buckle and pars plana vitrectomy with a controlled subretinal injection of a balanced salt solution resulted in MH closure and vision improvement in both cases. Case 1 also had significant recovery of macular sensitivity on microperimetry evaluation. Conclusions: Retinal redetachment was avoided by using the buckle indentation to provide external support of the posterior pole, r…

Adjustable Removable Traction Appliance With Surgically Assisted Eruption for Impacted Maxillary Central Incisors.

CONTEXT: Impacted maxillary central incisors (MCIs) can seriously affect children's appearance, verbal abilities, and maxillofacial development. Clinically, a combination of surgically assisted eruption and orthodontic traction is the treatment modality most acceptable to dentists and children's families. However, previously used traction methods have been complex and required a long treatment time. OBJECTIVE: The study intended to evaluate the clinical effects of the use of the research team's adjustable removable traction appliance combined with a surgically assisted eruption of impacted MC…

[Resection of a submacular traction membrane due to significant visual impairment : Case report].

An 89-year-old female presented with acute visual impairment and large cells in the vitreous cavity of the left eye. The patient was treated for a suspected intraocular lymphoma. In the follow-up a retinal detachment was diagnosed and treated via pars plana vitrectomy. A resection of the subretinal traction membrane following retinectomy was performed. The histological findings did not reveal any indications of a lymphoproliferative process. A ruptured choroidal neovascularization (CNV) with peripheral exudative hemorrhagic chorioretinopathy (PEHCR) and subretinal membrane formation was diagno…

Retrievable puncture anchor traction method for endoscopic ultrasound-guided gastroenterostomy: A porcine study.

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic ultrasound-guided gastroenterostomy (EUS-GE) is an alternative method for the surgical treatment of gastric outlet obstruction, but it is regarded as a challenging technique for endoscopists as the bowel is highly mobile and can tent away. Thus, the technique requires superb skill. In order to improve EUS-GE, we have developed a retrievable puncture anchor traction (RPAT) device for EUS-GE to address the issue of bowel tenting. AIM: To evaluate the feasibility of RPAT-assisted EUS-GE using an animal model. METHODS: Six Bama mini pigs each weighing between 15 and 20 kg …

Disease-associated keratin mutations reduce traction forces and compromise adhesion and collective migration.

Keratin intermediate filament (IF) proteins constitute the major cytoskeletal components in epithelial cells. Missense mutations in keratin … ficient keratinocytes, cells expressing K14R125C, a mutation that causes severe EBS, generate lower traction forces, accompanied by immature focal adhesions with an altered cellular distribution. Furthermore, mutant keratinocytes display reduced directionality during collective migration. Notably, RhoA activity is downregulated in human EBS keratinocytes, …

Surgical treatment of atlantoaxial subluxation by intraoperative skull traction and C1-C2 fixation.

BACKGROUND: Atlantoaxial subluxation (AAS) is a not rare abnormality between the atlas (C1) and axis (C2). For AAS patients with persistent neck pain and neurologic symptoms, surgical intervention is a good choice. Nevertheless, there were still few reports about the use of intraoperative skull traction and different fixation methods in treatment of AAS. METHODS: From January 2012 to December 2018, a total of 86 cases were admitted to our hospital and diagnosed as AAS. All the patients received atlantoaxial reduction with the help of intraoperative skull traction and C1-C2 fixation. Clinical …

Honeycomb lung-like structures resulting from clustering of traction bronchiectasis distally in sarcoidosis.

Gene expression profiles of patients with progressive sarcoidosis, most of whom had evidence of fibrosis on imaging, have been reported to b … ulmonary sarcoidosis with honeycomb lung-like structures developing as a result of concentration of traction bronchiectasis distally, predominantly in both lower lung fields, which developed through shrinkage of consolidations comprising a "central-peripheral band" detected in a woman in her 60s, with non-caseating epithelioid granuloma. To our knowledge, …

Patient-Specific Parameters Associated With Traction in Primary and Revision Hip Arthroscopic Surgery.

BACKGROUND: Distraction of the hip joint is a necessary step during hip arthroscopic surgery. The force of traction needed to distract the hip is not routinely measured, and little is known about which patient factors may influence this force. PURPOSE: To quantify the force of traction required for adequate distraction of the hip during arthroscopic surgery and explore the relationship between hip joint stiffness and patient-specific demographics, flexibility, and anatomy. STUDY DESIGN: Case series; Level of evidence, 4. METHODS: A total of 101 patients (61 female) undergoing primary hip ar…

Severe Postoperative Complications may be Related to Mesenteric Traction Syndrome during Open Esophagectomy.

BACKGROUND: During abdominal surgery, traction of the mesenterium provokes mesenteric traction syndrome, including hypotension, tachycardia, and flushing, along with an increase in plasma prostacyclin (PGI2). We evaluated whether postoperative complications are related to mesenteric traction syndrome during esophagectomy. METHODS: Flushing, hemodynamic variables, and plasma 6-keto-PGF1α were recorded during the abdominal part of open ( n = 25) and robotically assisted ( n = 25) esophagectomy. Postoperative complications were also registered, according to the Clavien-Dindo classification. RES…
