The American College of Nurse-Midwives' home-based lifesaving skills program: a review of the Ethiopia field test.

The Home-Based Lifesaving Skills program (HBLSS) is a family- and community-focused, competency-based program that aims to reduce maternal and newborn mortality by increasing access to basic lifesaving measures within the home and community and by decreasing delays in reaching referral facilities where obstetric complications, such as postpartum hemorrhage and newborn asphyxia, can be managed. HBLSS was field tested in rural southern Ethiopia where over 90% of births take place at home with unskilled attendants. The program review assessed 1) the performance of HBLSS-trained guides; 2) managem

The Role of Exercise Self-Efficacy in Exercise Participation Among Women With Persistent Fatigue After Breast Cancer: A Mixed-Methods Study.

OBJECTIVE: Survivors of breast cancer with persistent cancer-related fatigue (CRF) report less exercise participation compared with survivors of breast cancer without CRF. Although CRF predicts other domains of self-efficacy among survivors, the effect of CRF on exercise self-efficacy (ESE)-an important predictor of exercise participation-has not been quantified. This study examined the relationship between CRF, ESE, and exercise participation and explored the lived experience of engaging in exercise among survivors of breast cancer with persistent CRF. METHODS: Fifty-eight survivors of breas

Exudate-guided Janus trilayer bioelectronic dressing for multiplexed sensing and therapy of infected wounds.

Skin wound management poses a critical clinical challenge, as conventional dressings and systemic therapies fail to adapt to the dynamically evolving, complex wound microenvironment. Herein, we develop a breathable, self-adhesive, multifunctional wound dressing built on a gradient-wettable Janus trilayer fibrous membrane. This platform integrates in-situ biochemical sensing with combined antibacterial drug delivery and electrical-stimulation therapy. The vertically stacked trilayer architecture separately incorporates a multiplexed electrochemical sensor array (glucose, lactate, pH), a silver

Social Media Use and Body Checking Behaviors: The Roles of Stress, Emotional Eating, and Self-Esteem.

Social media (SM) use has been associated with increased body image dissatisfaction and body checking behaviors. Repetitive exposure to idealized images and interaction with appearance-related content may be the cause of this relationship. The present study used a cross-sectional survey to examine the associations between body checking behaviors and SM use, emotional eating, perceived stress, and self-esteem among adults (n = 423; aged 18-50 years, 71.9 percent female). Results showed that the number of online friends/followers, emotional eating, perceived stress, and general SM use significan

Light-Activated Transient Unilateral Adhesive Recombinant Collagen-Based Hydrogel for Reversible Fibrosis Induction and Full-Cycle Management of Pancreatic Fistula.

Currently, no effective treatment for pancreatic fistula (PF) exists, which has a mortality rate >40%. Existing protein-based physical barriers face the challenges of rapid degradation, lack of self-adhesiveness, and the inability to promote PF healing. To overcome this, a novel enzyme-resistant and highly bioactive hydrogel (CGO@Pg-Cu(II)) is developed using glycidyl methacrylate recombinant collagen (enzyme-cleavage-free) and oxidized pullulan as backbone molecules, which is further loaded with a penicillin G-Cu(II) infinite coordination polymer nanomedicine. This hydrogel can adapt to irreg
