An adult female Cape porcupine (Hystrix africaeaustralis) was presented because of marked abdominal distension, acute dyspnea, and lethargy. Physical examination and standard radiographs revealed marked and diffuse gaseous dilation of the stomach and intestines of undetermined origin. The porcupine died despite medical therapy and surgical intervention. Postmortem examination revealed chronic fungal (Aspergillus flavus) rhinitis. Given that rodents are obligate nasal breathers, the rhinitis likely resulted in substantial upper airway obstruction leading to aerophagia.

Penile Mondor's disease is a thrombophlebitis of the superficial dorsal vein of the penis. It is a rare clinical diagnosis and generally resolves spontaneously. A simple physical examination is sufficient for diagnosis but color Doppler ultrasonography is often carried out as a further investigation. We describe two patients who developed priapism due to penile Doppler ultrasonography which was used for diagnosis of these patients. Now, in our opinion this examination was unnecessary.

Hemangioblastomas are rarely found in a supratentorial location and are commonly associated with the von Hippel-Lindau complex. Therefore, patients with such tumors must be evaluated for both other hemangioblastomas within the central nervous system as well as for this complex via physical examination, radiographic examination, and genetic testing. We report the seventh case of a patient with an isolated supratentorial dural based hemangioblastoma not associated with the von Hippel-Lindau complex.

The most common breast complaints are nipple discharge, breast pain and a breast mass. These problems can be evaluated in a step-wise manner to determine whether the etiology is cancer. A breast mass is the most common symptom of cancer, but breast pain and nipple discharge also must be evaluated carefully. The history and physical examination, needle aspiration, mammography, ultrasound examination and biopsy are useful in determining the underlying cause of the problem.
