Evaluating HIV-1 Transmitted Drug Resistance and Clustering in Newly Diagnosed Patients in Romania (2019-2022).

The HIV epidemic in Romania started in the late eighties with a large cohort of children nosocomially infected with subtype F1 strains, in parallel with sexual transmission. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the transmitted drug resistance (TDR), subtype distribution, and transmission clusters among persons diagnosed with HIV between 2019 and 2022 in Romania. The prototype of a person recently diagnosed with HIV in Romania is male, 20-50 years old, a late presenter, infected with F1, B, or A subtype. The rate of TDR varied over time, from 5% in 2019 to 15% in 2022. TDR affect

Integrative Modular, Network-Based, and Machine Learning Framework for Predicting Accessory Genome Functions and Virulence in Escherichia coli O157:H7.

The pathogenicity of Escherichia coli O157:H7 is shaped not only by chromosomal toxins such as Stx and eae but also by virulence and resistance genes carried on plasmids. To explore the modular structure and predictive potential of these accessory elements, presence/absence data from 77 strains (70 accessory features) were analyzed. Methods included clustering using Euclidean and Jaccard distances, gene-to-gene network construction with community detection, Fisher's exact tests for associations between plasmid and virulence or antimicrobial resistance genes (AMR), random forest modeling to pre

Clustering of health behaviors in male workers and comparisons of incidences of insomnia, sleep apnea, and depression between non-restorative sleep and restorative sleep.

Promoting sleep health among workers is essential. This study examined the differential risks of developing insomnia, sleep apnea, and depression due to health behaviors underlying non-restorative sleep (NRS) and restorative sleep (RS). This study included 51,351 male Japanese workers aged 40 to 59 years who had undergone national health check-ups in 2015. The workers were clustered based on health behaviors, such as frequency and amount of alcohol consumption, smoking, and exercise, and body mass index (BMI), to identify patterns in health behaviors. These clusters were then stratified into t

Predicting Protein Pathways Associated to Tumor Heterogeneity by Correlating Spatial Lipidomics and Proteomics: The Dry Proteomic Concept.

Prediction of proteins and associated biological pathways from lipid analyses via matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) MSI is a pressing challenge. We introduced "dry proteomics," using MALDI MSI to validate spatial localization of identified optimal clusters in lipid imaging. Consistent cluster appearance across omics images suggests association with specific lipid and protein in distinct biological pathways, forming the basis of dry proteomics. The methodology was refined using rat brain tissue as a model, then applied to human glioblastoma, a highly heterogeneous cancer. Sequ

Clustering regional patterns of left ventricular longitudinal strain in systemic sclerosis-related pulmonary hypertension.

BACKGROUND: Systemic sclerosis-related pulmonary hypertension (SSc-PH) is a heterogeneous disease, often complicated by concomitant left ventricular (LV) dysfunction. However, the contribution of heterogeneity in LV dysfunction is unclear. The objective in this study was to identify regional clusters of LV longitudinal strain via echocardiography to determine how subgroups of LV dysfunction contribute to mortality in SSc-PH. METHODS: We performed a retrospective observational study on 124 patients with SSc-PH in which LV longitudinal strain was collected over a 16-segment model. We applied K-
