Magnetic Seizure Therapy vs Electroconvulsive Therapy for Major Depressive Episode-Reply.

The global burden of ocular surface disorders (OSDs), manifesting as progressive visual impairment and chronic discomfort, has driven urgent exploration of regenerative therapeutic strategies. Mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (MSC-Exos) have emerged as promising candidates for OSD treatment, as they exhibit multifaceted therapeutic properties including immunomodulation, antifibrotic activity, and pro-regenerative capacity. This systematic review consolidates current understanding of MSC-Exo-mediated ocular surface repair mechanisms, with particular emphasis on the molecular dialog establ

Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Lyme Carditis-A Case Series and Review of Literature.

Lyme carditis is an uncommon but potentially fatal manifestation of early disseminated Lyme disease. Timely diagnosis poses a clinical challenge due to the highly variable and non-specific symptomatology that can be easily overlooked, as well as the limited availability of specific and non-invasive diagnostic tests for assessing cardiac involvement. While cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging is the standard imaging modality for diagnosing various etiologies of cardiomyopathy, its application in Lyme carditis remains understudied. In this study, we present two cases of CMR-proven Lyme cardi

Visualizing symmetry-breaking electronic orders in epitaxial Kagome magnet FeSn films.

Kagome lattice hosts a plethora of quantum states arising from the interplay of topology, spin-orbit coupling, and electron correlations. Here, we report symmetry-breaking electronic orders tunable by an applied magnetic field in a model Kagome magnet FeSn consisting of alternating stacks of two-dimensional Fe3Sn Kagome and Sn2 honeycomb layers. On the Fe3Sn layer terminated FeSn thin films epitaxially grown on SrTiO3(111) substrates, we observe trimerization of the Kagome lattice using scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy, breaking its six-fold rotational symmetry while preserving the t

Evaluation of Deeply Infiltrating Endometriosis by Preoperative Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Patients with Adenomyosis.

OBJECTIVES: Before endometriosis surgery, it is important to identify deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) to assess the surgical difficulty. Preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used to determine which findings are useful in predicting DIE. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between 2008 and 2016, 54 patients with adenomyosis underwent total laparoscopic hysterectomy at our hospital. We retrospectively evaluated the intraoperative findings and magnetic resonance imaging (MR) images. The MR images were scored based on the presence of five findings: retroflexed uterus, elevated posterior vag

Physics-Informed Neural Networks for Tissue Elasticity Reconstruction in Magnetic Resonance Elastography.

Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) is a medical imaging modality that non-invasively quantifies tissue stiffness (elasticity) and is commonly used for diagnosing liver fibrosis. Constructing an elasticity map of tissue requires solving an inverse problem involving a partial differential equation (PDE). Current numerical techniques to solve the inverse problem are noise-sensitive and require explicit specification of physical relationships. In this work, we apply physics-informed neural networks to solve the inverse problem of tissue elasticity reconstruction. Our method does not rely on num

An evaluation of radiographers' extended practice in the detection of brain metastases on magnetic resonance images.

INTRODUCTION: Patients who undergo magnetic resonance (MR) imaging to confirm or rule out metastatic brain disease are required to wait for image review by a radiologist before leaving the department at the institute where this study was carried out. The aim was to evaluate whether radiographers can review images and reduce waiting times in those patients without metastases. METHODS: Prospective observational study of MR radiographers (n = 11) was undertaken. Radiographers commented on images to confirm whether the images showed evidence of metastatic disease, pathology but no metastases, or

Demonstration of chewing-related areas in the brain via functional magnetic resonance imaging.

PURPOSE: To localize and identify chewing-related areas and their connections with other centres in the human brain using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). MATERIAL AND METHODS: The paradigm of the present study was block designed. Spontaneous and controlled chewing with sugar-free gum was used as the main task in a 3-Tesla fMRI unit with a 32-channel birdcage coil. Our study popu-lation comprised 32 healthy volunteers. To determine possible intersections, we also put the rosary pulling (silent tell one's beads) movement in the fMRI protocol. The data analyses were performed with

Longer-term outcomes of gastroesophageal reflux disease treated with magnetic sphincter augmentation.

Surgical intervention for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has historically been limited to fundoplication. Magnetic sphincter augmentation (MSA) is a less invasive alternative that was introduced 15 years ago, and it may have a superior side-effect profile. To date, however, there has been just a single published study reporting outcomes in a UK population. This study reports quality-of-life (QOL) outcomes and antacid use in patients undergoing MSA, with a particular focus on postoperative symptoms and those with severe reflux. A single-center cohort study was carried out to assess the

Magnetic sphincter augmentation: paradigm change or just another device in the surgeon's toolbox?

The common denominator for virtually all episodes of gastroesophageal reflux in health and disease is the loss of the barrier that confines the distal esophagus to the stomach. Factors important in maintaining the function of the barrier are its pressure, length and position. In early reflux disease, overeating, gastric distention and delayed gastric emptying led to a transient loss of the barrier. A permanent loss of the barrier occurs from inflammatory injury to the muscle allowing free flow of gastric juice into the esophageal body. Corrective therapy requires augmentation or restoration of

Glucose-sensitive hypothalamic nuclei traced through functional magnetic resonance imaging.

INTRODUCTION: Hypothalamic glucose-sensitive neural circuits, which regulate energy metabolism and can contribute to diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes, have been difficult to study in humans. We developed an approach to assess hypothalamic functional connectivity changes during glucose loading using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). METHODS: To do so, we conducted oral glucose tolerance tests while acquiring functional images before, and 10 and 45 min after glucose ingestion in a healthy male and cross-sectionally in 20 healthy participants on two different diets. Single-Sided Magnet System for Quantitative MR Relaxometry and Preclinical In-Vivo Monitoring.

OBJECTIVE: We have developed a single-sided magnet system that allows Magnetic Resonance relaxation and diffusion parameters to be measured. METHODS: A single-sided magnet system has been developed, using an array of permanent magnets. The magnet positions are optimised to produce a B0 magnetic field with a spot that is relatively homogenous and can project into a sample. NMR relaxometry experiments are used to measure quantitative parameters such as T2, T1 and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) on samples on the benchtop. To explore preclinical application, we test whether it can detect ch
