One hundred fifty-one patients with tinea pedis participated in a double-blind study to assess the efficacy and safety of a powder containing undecylenic acid 2% and zinc undecylenate 20% versus a placebo powder. CASE: We present a case of ovarian choriocarcinoma forming a huge ovarian mass 40 days after the patient's last menstrual period. Deoxyribonucleic acid microsatellite analysis of the tumor revealed that it contained a single maternal and two paternal alleles at several independent loci, consistent with the tumor resulting from ovarian pregnancy of a partial hydatidiform mole.

One hundred and seven cases of tuberculous meningitis were registered as a part of a case-control study during the period 1990-1992. The CSF of all cases was positive for culture and/or smear for acid fast bacilli. Children were examined at the time of admission and at the time of discharge and they were contacted at the end of 1 year. Clinical picture, mortality and morbidity were analyzed. A single-blind study was carried out in 52 patients with severe pain after Colles' fracture to assess the analgesic efficacy and tolerability of 500 mg diflunisal twice daily compared with that of 500 mg mefenamic acid given 3-times daily over a period of 5 days. The results showed that both treatments were effective in relieving pain, night pain and limitation of movement by pain, and there was no significant difference between the response in the two groups. Both drugs were tolerated and only 3 patients (2 on diflunisal) reported mild drug-related side-effects.

BACKGROUND: Protein metabolism and urea production maintain protein and amino acid homeostasis in normal status. Ammonia results from amino acid turnover and is produced by intestinal urease-positive bacteria. Ammonia must be detoxified, and the urea cycle converts ammonia into urea. CPS1 is an enzyme in the urea cycle that catalyzes ammonia and bicarbonate condensation.
