This article focuses on the differential diagnosis of pathologic lesions recorded on the limbs and crania of 17 subadults from two pre-European burial mounds in Tonga, western Polynesia. All affected subadults were between the ages of 6 months and 3 years at death. The lesions described consist primarily of subperiosteal new bone deposition on the limbs and endocranial surface. The objective of this study was to describe outcome in a dog with a failed atypical articular medial femoral condyle fracture salvaged with total knee replacement. We present a retrospective case study of a 2-year-old male neutered Whippet dog. An articular medial condylar fracture was repaired primarily with extraarticular positional cortical screws. The skeletal remains of eight Australian Aboriginals with healed depressed skull fractures were examined. Male:female ratio 5:3; age range 20-60 yrs. Burial dates by 14 C dating in three cases were 500 years BP (n = 2) and 1300 BP. An osteoid osteoma of the cervical spinal pedicle is rare and carries a high surgical risk because of the close anatomic relationship to the spinal cord, nerve root, and vertebral artery. We assessed 106 total hip arthroplasties performed with a new metal-on-metal hip system; the patients were monitored for at least 5 years. The average Harris Hip Score of the patients was 39.5 points before surgery and 87.8 points at final follow-up evaluation. Radiographically, the acetabular component was stable in 103 hips and possibly unstable in 3 hips. The femoral component was bone ingrown in 97 hips and stable and fibrous in 9.
