Standardized reporting of sacroiliac joints in spondyloarthritis on CT: modified Delphi consensus on lesion definitions from the ESSR-Arthritis Subcommittee.

OBJECTIVES: To establish standardized definitions for structural sacroiliac joint (SIJ) lesions on computed tomography (CT) to enable consistent reporting. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A modified Delphi process was conducted among members of the Arthritis Subcommittee of the European Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology (ESSR). Initial definitions were drafted by a core group of twelve experts from nine different countries, and iteratively refined across up to three rounds. In the first round, members indicated simple agreement or disagreement. Subsequent rounds employed a 10-point Likert scale (1

Mirror Neurons and Pain: A Scoping Review of Experimental, Social, and Clinical Evidence.

Background: The mirror neuron system (MNS) has been proposed as a key neural mechanism linking action perception, motor representation, and social cognition. This framework has increasingly been applied to pain research, encompassing pain empathy, observational learning of pain, and rehabilitative interventions such as mirror therapy. However, the literature is conceptually heterogeneous, methodologically diverse, and spans experimental, social, and clinical domains. Objective: This scoping review aims to map the extent, nature, and characteristics of the available evidence on the relationship

Tendon Injury Is Associated With Sex Hormone Therapy in the Active-Duty Population.

INTRODUCTION: The impact of sex hormones on connective tissue is controversial. Previous investigations found that female estrogen contraceptive therapy use may have simultaneous beneficial and detrimental musculoskeletal health effects, whereas males receiving androgen therapy had an increased Odds Ratio (OR) (3.6) of rotator cuff tears and higher Achilles Tendon injury rates. Furthermore, males receiving androgen therapy had an increased OR (26.7) for rotator cuff revision within a year of primary surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Our design involves an observational, retrospective study usin

Multiparametric MRI biomarkers in pediatric osteosarcoma: associations of ADC, necrosis, and tumor volume with histologic and clinical outcomes in a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Assessment of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in pediatric osteosarcoma is challenging, as histologic evaluation of tumor necrosis is only available after surgical resection. Quantitative MRI parameters, including diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI)-derived apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values, tumor volume, and radiologic necrosis, may provide noninvasive information related to treatment response and outcomes. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate quantitative MRI features before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in pediatric osteosarcoma and to investigate their associations with his

Robust neural network controller for a lower limb exoskeleton with minimal sensor configuration: a deep reinforcement learning approach with policy distillation.

BACKGROUND: Lower limb rehabilitation exoskeletons (LLREs) are increasingly used in clinical settings to improve mobility in individuals with neuromuscular impairments. Most LLREs employ controllers focused on trajectory tracking, which lack adaptability to user-specific variations or voluntary effort. Autonomous LLREs enable hands-free gait but often require a multitude of sensors such as IMU, encoders, and foot force sensors to enable user intent prediction, gait phase detection, and dynamic balance. This often introduces substantial challenges related to cost, complexity, reliability, and s

Novel fat suppression technique for ultrashort echo time MRI using single-point Dixon phase modeling.

BACKGROUND: Fat suppression plays a vital role in numerous magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations, particularly in the musculoskeletal (MSK) system. However, current fat suppression methods are not fully optimized for ultrashort echo time (UTE) imaging, despite being essential for many advanced UTE-based imaging applications. This study aimed to investigate a novel fat suppression technique for UTE MRI using a single-point Dixon (1p-Dixon) approach through phase modeling. METHODS: In this study, four cadaveric human knee joints, and six healthy volunteers were included. A 1p-Dixon-base

Knee Torque and Gait Performance in Veteran Amputees: Biomechanical Insights Into Intact Limb Injury Risk.

New recovery pathways to improve and sustain strength and functional outcomes in the veteran amputee population are required to reduce the onset of comorbidities with aging. To date, no comprehensive study has quantified key gait parameters with clinically applied tests and measured lower limb strength in this cohort and their relationship to potential indicators of onset of musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries. This study fills this gap. ADVANCE Study cohorts of unilateral transtibial (UTT; n = 12) and unilateral transfemoral (UTF; n = 10) veteran amputees were matched to military able-bodied contr

Sagittal Plane Kinematic Deviations and Spatio-Temporal Gait Characteristics in Children with Idiopathic Toe Walking: A Comparative Analysis Using Statistical Parametric Mapping.

Background/Objectives: Idiopathic Toe Walking (ITW) is a pediatric gait disorder characterized by persistent toe-to-heel ambulation in the absence of neurological, orthopedic, or developmental abnormalities. While spatio-temporal parameters often remain within normal ranges, subtle but clinically significant kinematic deviations may underlie compensatory mechanisms that sustain gait functionality. This study aims to evaluate spatio-temporal and sagittal plane kinematic differences between children with ITW and typically developing peers using Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM). Methods: A co
