Differences in chief complaints based on the molar relationship: A quantitative text analysis of open-ended responses from orthodontic patients.

OBJECTIVE: Understanding the chief complaints of patients is essential for effective communication and successful orthodontic treatment. Although previous studies have often used structured questionnaires, few have applied data-driven methods to unstructured free-text responses. Furthermore, how these complaints from distinct semantic structures based on molar classifications remains underexplored. This study aimed to examine these structural differences using correspondence and co-occurrence network analyses. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients who visited an academic dental hospital for an init

Expert consensus on trauma-focused PTSD treatments for adults with acquired brain injury.

OBJECTIVE: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) frequently co-occurs with acquired brain injury (ABI), yet limited evidence guides treatment for this population. This study aimed to establish expert consensus on the applicability of trauma-focused PTSD treatments for adults with ABI, identify commonly used adaptations, and clarify treatment challenges. METHOD: A Delphi study was conducted with Dutch clinicians experienced in delivering PTSD treatment to adults with ABI across mental health, rehabilitation, and hospital settings. Through two iterative survey rounds, participants evaluated stat

Mobile application intervention for workplace resilience, self-efficacy, and depression in clinical nurses.

BACKGROUND: Clinical nurses are particularly vulnerable to stress and psychological distress during public health emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Workplace resilience is vital for mental health and professional functioning. Mobile app-based interventions offer accessible and flexible support in clinical practice. Such approaches may facilitate scalable support for healthcare workers in dynamic and high-demand settings. Clinical nurses face significant mental health challenges in the post-pandemic context, yet evidence on scalable, technology-driven interventions remains limited. OB

A Scoping Review of the Perceptions and Experiences of People From Underserved Groups of Being on Personalized Stratified Follow-Up Following Treatment for Breast Cancer.

BACKGROUND: Personalized Stratified Follow-Up (PSFU) is an approach to cancer follow-up involving patients re-accessing care when they need to, rather than attending predetermined appointments. The benefits of this approach are a more personalized experience for patients and increased capacity in clinics. OBJECTIVE: To understand the evidence relating to the experiences of people on PSFU following breast cancer treatment, specifically in terms of the perceptions of people from underserved groups. METHODS: A scoping review of the relevant evidence was conducted. Screening was conducted indepe

The transition of youth with diabetes from paediatric to adult diabetes care services: a consensus report of the joint working group of the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD), the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) and the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

Young adulthood is a period of significant and unique physiological, psychological, sexual and social upheaval. Related challenges can have an impact on effective diabetes self-management, with high rates of unplanned healthcare use recorded for many, and consequent increases in the risks of premature morbidity and mortality. Healthcare professionals need guidance in delivering transition support for adolescents and young adults with diabetes. This would help to facilitate the formulation and implementation of local policies and procedures, enabling guidelines to be translated into practice an

"I Want to Cry, but I Have to Be Strong for My Child…" Challenges and Support Needs of Parents Caring for a Child Diagnosed With Cancer: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Childhood cancer profoundly affects the entire family. Parents experience substantial emotional, physical, and social burdens while managing their child's treatment and maintaining family life. Amid uncertainty, fear, and helplessness, they often neglect their own needs. Understanding parents' challenges and support needs is, therefore, essential for developing holistic, family-centered care. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the challenges and support needs of parents caring for children diagnosed with cancer. METHODS: A descriptive qualitative design was used. Parents of c

Leveraging lavaan for iterated conditional expectations: A streamlined parametric g-formula.

Longitudinal designs are widely used to assess causal effects that develop over time. But treatment-confounder causal feedback complicates adjusting for time-varying confounding. An established solution from the causal inference literature is parametric g-formula. In this tutorial, I introduce a streamlined variant: the iterated conditional expectation (ICE). Parametric g-formula using ICE requires only a sequence of regression models for the mean outcomes at consecutive time points. It is thus ideally suited for repeatedly measured outcomes, as frequently encountered in psychological research

Standards for reporting research methods, interventions, and Outcomes in Surgical Prehabilitation studies (SOS-Prehab).

BACKGROUND: Prehabilitation, a process of building physiological reserve before surgery to improve postoperative outcomes, is a complex, multimodal intervention that requires rigorous evaluation in clinical trials. Incomplete reporting by such trials obscures essential intervention components and delivery contexts, hindering comparability and interpretability. This, in turn, limits clinical implementation and the replication or refinement of interventions by researchers. The aim of this study was to develop a reporting checklist for RCTs of prehabilitation. METHODS: A modified two-round Delph

"This experience cannot be erased… it left a deep hole in me": perceptions of mothers of childhood cancer survivors on adapting to a new normal.

AIMS: This study explored how mothers of childhood cancer survivors (CCS) adapt to daily life following hospitalization, with emphasis on establishing a new sense of normal. It sought to provide insight into mothers' unique experiences and perceptions of post-treatment life. Specifically, it examined which resilience factors support psychosocial well-being and effective coping and which contribute to maladaptive functioning. METHODS: Guided by a phenomenological and interpretive epistemological stance, this qualitative study entailed in-depth, semi-structured interviews with five Estonian mot

In-session emotional experiencing in brief psychotherapy conducted by trainee psychologists: process, alliance, and the role of therapist persuasiveness.

Despite the recognition of emotional experiencing as a key change factor in psychotherapy, gaps remain regarding how clinical training influences this dimension, particularly in brief interventions conducted by trainees, and preliminary process data on this phenomenon in Portuguese clinical training contexts are scarce. This study examined emotional experiencing in brief psychotherapy conducted by trainee psychologists undergoing structured experiential training with deliberate practice, analyzing whether patients show a progressive increase in experiential depth across sessions, whether highe

Experiences, support networks, and resilience among women after stillbirth in Ghana: a qualitative study.

INTRODUCTION: Stillbirth remains a profound public health, psychological, and social concern, particularly in low- and middle-income settings where bereavement support is limited. This study explored the support networks and resilience strategies of women who experienced stillbirth at Shai Osudoku District Hospital in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. METHODS: A qualitative descriptive study using inductive thematic analysis was employed to capture women's lived experiences in their own words. Fifteen postpartum women, 6-24 weeks after a stillbirth, were purposively recruited, and in-depth s

Dance-Based Interventions for Mental Health: A Comprehensive and Quality-Sensitive Umbrella Review of Definitions, Measurement Practices, and Evidence Fragmentation.

Dance-based interventions are increasingly used to support mental health and well-being across clinical, community, and educational contexts. However, the review-level evidence remains conceptually and methodologically fragmented. This quality-sensitive umbrella review synthesized 90 review articles identified across five databases. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses were appraised using AMSTAR 2, while scoping, narrative, literature, and clinical reviews were assessed using adapted review-appraisal criteria. Findings from systematic reviews and meta-analyses were used primarily to interpret

Unwarranted variation in total B12 test thresholds for the diagnosis of vitamin B12 deficiency across the UK and the validation of a method-specific total B12 reference interval for the Beckman Coulter DxI platform to support implementation of NICE NG239.

BACKGROUND: Prompt diagnosis and treatment of vitamin B12 deficiency prevents haematological, neurological, psychological and psychiatric disturbances. During November 2024, reference interval data used for the clinical interpretation of total B12 assays was collated from participants of the UK NEQAS for Haematinic Assays Scheme. From these data we characterised the geographical variation in diagnostic thresholds across the United Kingdom to identify regions with poor adherence to National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance (NG239). METHODS: Applied diagnostic thresholds

Guides through Transformation: Virgil, Starbuck, and the Ethical Role of the Plastic Surgeon.

Guidance during transformation is a recurring theme in literature and medicine. In Divine Comedy, Virgil successfully guides Dante through suffering toward understanding, whereas in Moby-Dick, Starbuck recognizes Captain Ahab's destructive obsession but fails to prevent catastrophe. This conceptual humanities analysis examines these contrasting literary figures through the perspective of plastic surgery ethics and explores their relevance to reconstructive and aesthetic practice. The literary roles of Virgil and Starbuck were comparatively interpreted using narrative and conceptual analysis. T
