A mutant of Neurospora crassa (cni-1) has been isolated that has two pathways of mitochondrial respiration. One pathway is sensitive to cyanide and antimycin A, the other is sensitive only to salicyl hydroxamic acid. Chronic diabetic wounds require dressings that combine high liquid absorption, antibacterial activity, and bioactivity to support tissue repair. Here, copper-containing mesoporous bioactive glass (Cu-MBG) was incorporated into polyurethane foam to create a bioactive composite dressing (PU-Cu-MBG). A one-pot methodology for the tandem acylation and oxidative aromatization of vinylogous thioesters to 2-acyl-5-(alkyl/arylthio) phenols is presented. We study the optical properties of copper containing II-VI alloy quantum dots (CuxZnyCd1-x-ySe). Copper mole fractions within the host are varied from 0.001 to 0.35.
