Health systems approaches and other multisectoral efforts for primary prevention of female genital mutilation and clinical management of its complications.

BACKGROUND: Female genital mutilation (FGM) affects more than 230 million girls and women globally and poses substantial public health, human rights, and gender-equality challenges. While community and legislative initiatives remain central to elimination efforts, emerging evidence underscores the pivotal role of health systems in prevention, clinical management, and rights-based support for survivors. OBJECTIVES: This editorial synthesizes findings from six systematic and mixed-method reviews that inform the 2025 WHO guideline on the prevention of FGM and the management of its complications,

Improving healthy eating behaviour among in-school adolescents through collaborative instructional intervention: a theory-driven quasi-experimental study.

BACKGROUND: Adolescence is a critical window for establishing dietary behaviours that shape long-term health outcomes. In Nigeria and other Sub-Saharan African countries, school-based nutrition education has been largely ineffective when delivered through conventional didactic approaches. This study evaluated the effect of a Health Belief Model-guided collaborative learning intervention on diet quality, nutrition knowledge, and perceived dietary behaviour among in-school adolescents in Ogun State, Nigeria. METHODS: A quasi-experimental, pre-test-post-test control group design was used. Three

Exploring the Link Between Maternal Oral Health Literacy and Child Oral Health Behaviours.

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Caregiver's oral health literacy (OHL) has a multidimensional impact on child oral health outcomes. In infants and toddlers, oral health behaviours (OHB) play a crucial role in the development of early childhood caries and could be related to the caregiver's OHL. A simple OHL assessment may help identify children at risk of caries. This study aimed to investigate the association between maternal OHL and the child OHBs during the first 2 years of life. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 398 mothers of children aged 6 to 24 months. Maternal OHL was assess

Health care providers' and parents' attitudes toward administration of new infant vaccines--a multinational survey.

The New Vaccinations of Infants in Practice online survey in seven countries evaluated vaccination-related attitudes and concerns of parents of infants and health care providers (HCPs) who provide pediatric medical care. The survey showed that HCPs and parents were open to adding new vaccines to the immunization schedule, even if it requires co-administration with current vaccines or introduction of new office visits. Parental disease awareness campaigns would be helpful to achieve widespread acceptance of changes to vaccination schedules. In addition, HCPs would ideally provide disease educat

[Hormonal (levonorgestrel) emergency contraception--effectiveness and mechanism of action].

Periodic abstinence and coitus interruptus are the most popular methods of contraception in Poland. Recent studies have provided us with evidence that the so-called "menstrual calendar" may be much less effective than it was believed. In these circumstances, promotion and use of safe and truly effective contraceptives is very important for Polish women. Emergency contraception (EC) is a method which could be used even in cases when other contraception methods have failed. Mechanism of action of levonorgestrel used for EC and possible disturbances in the process of implantation of the blastocys

Professional Training in Sexology: Insights and Recommendations from the Polish Experience.

This study examines strengths and weaknesses in sexological education pathways in Poland. Data from 46 in-depth, semi-structured interviews with Polish sexual health professionals were analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. Three themes emerged: insufficient practical training; concerns about course content being outdated, overly theoretical, and sometimes pathologizing or heterocentric; and limited opportunities for self-reflection on personal attitudes and biases. Current training models appear to prioritize theoretical knowledge over clinical skills and ethical self-awareness. Particip
