Thirty-five patients were examined 6-11 years after operation for torsion of the testis. Loss of testicular tissue was significantly associated with long preoperative duration of symptoms and with low postoperative sperm counts. Circadian rhythms were investigated in the levels of ACTH, FSH, LH, hydrocortisone, testosterone, progesterone and estradiol in 12 healthy subjects against 32 patients suffering from infiltrative lung tuberculosis. The mode of inheritance of primary gonadotropic deficiency was studied in 38 children and adolescents. 92% of this population was male with high frequencies of undescended testes (80%) and micropenis (31%). In a double-blind placebo-controlled study in 49 boys with cryptorchidism the effect of intranasal synthetic LHRH was studied. After 8 weeks improvement in testicular location was found in 13 testes (37%), but this improvement was considered sufficient of only six testes. Seventeen women and four men with galactorrhoea and associated hypogonadism have been treated with bromocriptine for 2 to 28 months. In 18 patients the gonadal status became normal as the galactorrhoea improved. The gonadally unresponsive patients had either pituitary tumours or premature menopause.
