BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Follicular mucinosis is characterized by deposits of mucin in the sebaceous gland and outer root sheath of hair follicles. The diagnosis may occur without another cutaneous disease ("idiopathic" follicular mucinosis) or in association with hematologic malignancies, most often cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, and other skin conditions.

An extended right hemicolectomy with ileosigmoid anastomosis due to an obstructing mass on the splenic flexure was urgently performed. PURPOSE: Differentiating idiopathic sclerosing orbital inflammation from orbital inflammation secondary to neoplasia may be challenging, as both processes can present similarly. Neoplasms in the orbit may induce inflammation with accompanying fibrosis. A 74-year-old woman was referred for a right lower lobe consolidation (maximum diameter, 73 mm) pathologically diagnosed as invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (c-T4 N0 M0, c-stage IIIA).
