[Urinary disorders and metabolic syndrome: prospective study].

OBJECTIVE: Metabolic syndrome (MS) risk factors are potentially implicated in the development of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). The go … ptoms. CONCLUSION: The most frequent urinary symptom in the MS was overactive bladder symptoms and urinary incontinence. The components of MS that influenced the USP score were abdominal obesity and hyperglycemia. The hypothesis of a link between MS and overactive bladder in diabetic patients with MS is plausible.

MORPHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT OF NO-SYNTHASE DISTRIBUTION IN OVERACTIVE BLADDER AND STRESS URINE INCONTINENCE IN ANIMAL MODELS ADMINISTERED WITH EXPERIMENTAL PHARMACOCORRECTION REGIMENS.

The objective of the study was immunohistochemical evaluation of distribution of various NO synthase fractions in the structural elements of the bladder wall under stress urinary incontinence and its overactivity prior and post Mirabegron, Spasmex, Quercetin therapies and their combinations with Testosterone and Estradiol. Using the immunohistochemical method, we studied the expression of the main fractions of NO synthase in experimental models of hyperactive bladder (OAB) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI). We found that OAB and SUI were characterized by emergence of expression of the indu…

[Radiation proctitis: description of two cases refractory to pharmacological treatment].

Radiation proctitis, is a relatively frequent complication resulting from the direct or collateral irradiation of the rectum in radiotherapy treatment for genito-urinary or anorectal malignancies. The main symptoms are diarrhoea, tenesmus, proctorrhagia, anal pain, mucorrhoea and faecal incontinence. The evolution of chronic radiation proctitis requires treatment for related anaemia, anal incontinence and micturition disorders. The approach and type of treatment depend on the severity of the symptoms and on the endoscopic aspect, in relation to the response to previous medical therapy performe

Needle tip control and its effect in reducing intraoperative complications during tension-free vaginal tape placement.

Tactile needle tip control was used to aid perforation during standard tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) placement to treat urinary incontinence. The success and complications of this novel method were compared retrospectively with the reported results of the standard technique. One hundred nine patients had TVT placement between 1998 and 2001, with follow-up continuing into 2002. Preoperatively, the severity of urinary incontinence was assessed objectively. Postoperatively, TVT effectiveness was assessed subjectively by standardized questionnaire, completed by 78 of the 109 patients (72%). Obje…

Detrusor hyperreflexia--are there two types?

The concept that elderly patients with urinary incontinence due to detrusor hyperreflexia can be divided into two groups with differing natural histories on the basis of the detrusor contractility found on cystometry is reassessed. Thirty patients shown to have hyperreflexia on urodynamic study for persistent urinary incontinence following a recent neurological lesion had their contractility measured by the suggested criteria of the residual urine following a hyperreflexic contraction and the rate of increase of detrusor pressure. The consistency of contractility on cystometry was also measure…

Post Void Residual and Bladder Capacity Predict Urinary Continence Following Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia.

OBJECTIVE: To better understand and potentially predict transient urinary incontinence following Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP), we investigated whether preoperative urodynamic studies (UDS), the gold standard for assessing bladder physiology, can identify patients at higher risk for transient urinary incontinence. METHODS: We conducted a single-institution retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent UDS followed by HoLEP for BPH between 2017 and 2023. We collected data on baseline characteristics, UDS parameters, and perioperative outcomes. The primary outcome was…

Current Concepts in Endoscopic Bladder Neck Injection: Combined Antegrade and Retrograde Endoscopic Injection of the Bladder Neck in Children with Neurogenic Bladder.

INTRODUCTION: Urinary incontinence is common in patients with neurogenic bladder, and efficient management is an ongoing challenge. Besides open surgical procedures like bladder neck reconstruction, artificial sphincter implantation, or sling procedures, endoscopic bladder neck injections of bulking agents enable minimally invasive access with promising results. Several studies report on the effect of antegrade vs. retrograde endoscopic injection techniques. We report our preliminary experience of combined antegrade and retrograde endoscopic injection of the bladder neck in children with neuro…

A Single-System Ectopic Ureter in a Child: A Challenge for Early Diagnosis.

An ectopic ureter is an uncommon anomaly, usually associated with a duplicated urinary system. Up to 20% of ectopic ureters occur in a single system. In females, only 25% of ectopic ureters insert into the vagina and usually cause urinary incontinence, which can be confused with vaginal discharge. The diagnostic investigation includes urinary tract ultrasound, DMSA, and urethrocystography, which evaluate renal morphology and function, determining factors for surgical treatment decision that aims to preserve renal function, prevent the recurrence of infections, and reestablish urinary continenc…
