The syndrome of CD8 hyperlymphocytosis with neutropenia is a heterogeneous disorder ranging from reactive benign state to neoplastic pathology. The prognosis for LGL (Large Granular Lymphocyte) leukemia depends likely on its phenotype:-NK phenotype, extremely poor prognosis and rapidly fatal-T phenotype (CD8+), chronic disease with slow progression. Six patients had chronic liver diseases of diverse origin, persistent unexplained thrombocytopenia, and no palpable splenic enlargement. Platelet-associated IgG levels were increased in all cases. Two patients underwent splenectomy; the spleens weighed 375 and 230 g. Each patient had prompt, complete, and sustained platelet count normalization. The causes of early deaths (12 weeks from diagnosis) were analyzed in 41 patients, i.e. 29% of total acute leukemia material, hospitalized 1976-1981. The most common cause of death was infection, mainly pneumonia and septicaemia, infection and haemorrhagic diathesis or haemorrhagic diathesis alone. In 3 patients suddenly dead, large brain infiltrations were found. Analysis of prognostic factors revealed significantly higher leukocyte count and significantly lower platelet count in the peripheral blood than in the control group of acute myeloid leukemia patients.

Twenty-seven children with congenital hepatic fibrosis were followed for three months to 12 years. Hepatosplenomegaly, normal liver function tests, and kidney abnormalities were present in most patients, indicating that a correct diagnosis of congenital hepatic fibrosis could be made using simple clinical, biologic, and radiologic criteria. The relationships between scintigraphic features and clinical alcoholism were studied by review of 2,406 liver scintiphotos. Two distinct patterns were significantly associated with alcoholism: (a) heterogeneous distribution of radiocolloid in the liver, and (b) jointly increased uptake of tracer by the spleen and vertebral bone marrow. Lipoatrophic diabetes is characterized by: complete lack of subcutaneous fattissue (generalized lipodystrophy), insulin resistant diabetes mellitus, hepatosplenomegaly, excessive hyperthyroidism, elevated basal metabolic note without hyperthyroidism.
