INTRODUCTION: The true incidence of urethral involvement in patients with genital lichen sclerosus (LS) is unknown. We review the epidemiology and discuss the pathogenesis of LS and urethral stricture diseases.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: During the period 1991-2002, of 925 patients who underwent urethroplasty for anterior urethral stricture, 130 patients (14%) received the diagnosis of LS. In all patients with LS the histology was re-examined to confirm the clinical diagnosis. Retrograde and voiding urethrography was used to establish urethral involvement in the disease.

OBJECTIVE: To explore an effective method to repair penile-scrotal or perineal hypospadias in one stage with prepuce island flap.
METHODS: Different prepuce island flaps were designed according to the different pathological anatomy of the penile-scrotal or perineal hypospadias. The prepuce island flaps were thus translocated and sutured to form the urethra. Thirty-one cases of hypospadias (21 cases of peinil-scrotal type, 10 cases of perineal type) were repaired with prepuce island flap. The biggest length and the width of the prepuce island flap were 7.5 cm and 1.5-1.8 cm respectively.

We studied the value of carrying out urethral samples in women to diagnose gonorrhoea. All cases of genital gonorrhoea in women were identified (between 1 October 2000 and 30 September 2001) at the Whittall Street Clinic and the genitourinary medicine department at the Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital. A marmoset (Callithrix jacchus) with atypical external genitalia was phenotypically and genetically characterized. Testosterone concentration correlated with that of female marmosets. Externally, there was only one opening for the urethra. The authors report their experience of an extremely rare case of extramammary Paget's disease presenting a deformational change of the penis, which required penile reconstruction after tumor resection. OBJECTIVE: Congenital bladder diverticula (CBD) usually occur in areas where the muscle is inadequately formed, typically at the ureterovesical junction, or between bundles of hypertrophied muscle. CBD are mostly asymptomatic and the cases are found incidentally. Occasionally, some cases of CBD may produce urinary obstruction as a result of compression of the urethra or urinary tract infection which result in retention of urine within the diverticulum.
