Pterygium: an update on pathophysiology, clinical features, and management.

Pterygium is a relatively common ocular surface disease. The clinical aspects and the treatment options have been studied since many years ago, but many uncertainties still exist. The core pathologic pathway and the role of heredity in the development of pterygium are still attractive fields for the researchers. The role of pterygium in corneal irregularities, in addition to the refractive properties of pterygium removal, has been increasingly recognized through numerous studies. The association between pterygium and ocular surface neoplasia is challenging the traditional beliefs regarding the

Mitochondrial tRNA mutations in Chinese Children with Tic Disorders.

Single molecule based superresolution techniques (STORM/PALM) achieve nanometer spatial resolution by integrating the temporal information of the switching dynamics of fluorophores (emitters). When emitter density is low for each frame, they are located to the nanometer resolution. However, when the emitter density rises, causing significant overlapping, it becomes increasingly difficult to accurately locate individual emitters. This is particularly apparent in three dimensional (3D) localization because of the large effective volume of the 3D point spread function (PSF). The inability to prec

Sensorless adaptive-optics optical coherence tomographic angiography.

Optical coherence tomographic angiography (OCTA) can image the retinal blood flow but visualization of the capillary caliber is limited by the low lateral resolution. Adaptive optics (AO) can be used to compensate ocular aberrations when using high numerical aperture (NA), and thus improve image resolution. However, previously reported AO-OCTA instruments were large and complex, and have a small sub-millimeter field of view (FOV) that hinders the extraction of biomarkers with clinical relevance. In this manuscript, we developed a sensorless AO-OCTA prototype with an intermediate numerical aper

Thinner retinal nerve fibre layer in healthy myopic eyes with thinner central corneal thickness.

PURPOSE: Thinner central corneal thickness (CCT) is a risk factor for conversion from ocular hypertension to glaucoma and for disease progression. However, little is known about the relationship between CCT and characteristics of the optic nerve and the retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) in non-glaucomatous eyes. Because myopic eyes may pose diagnostic challenges when assessed for glaucoma, characterising the relationship between CCT and RNFL in these eyes is clinically relevant. Our aim was to investigate the relationship between CCT and RNFL thickness in non-glaucomatous eyes with small/modera
