Absidia corymbifera is a rare cause of pulmonary tract infection. There exist only 5 case reports predominantly diagnosed in bone marrow transplant patients. Lung transplant patients are at high risk for invasive fungal infections. Due to A. corymbifera as pathogen, known to be voriconazole resistant, a fatal invasive pulmonary mycosis occurred. Reconstituted multilayered oesophageal epithelium appears to be a good basis to test the efficacy of voriconazole (VOR) and fluconazole (FLU) in the tissue. Primary (nonreactive) eosinophilia is operationally classified as either a "clonal" or an "idiopathic" process. Clonal eosinophilia stipulates the presence of cytogenetic, molecular, or bone marrow histologic evidence of acute leukemia or a chronic myeloid disorder. Idiopathic eosinophilia is a diagnosis of exclusion that is made after ruling out both "secondary" (reactive) and clonal eosinophilia. Hypereosinophilic syndrome is a subclass of idiopathic eosinophilia that requires the documentation of both sustained eosinophilia (> or = 1500/microL for at least 6 months) and target-organ damage.

UV-induced cyclobutane dimers and 6-4 photoproducts, containing an unmodified nucleotide at the 5'-position were released from DNA by means of digestion with DNase I, snake venom phosphodiesterase and prostatic acid phosphatase. The enzymes were deactivated by proteinase K followed by ethanol precipitation. The products were phosphorylated by polynucleotide kinase and [gamma-32P]ATP. The TLC system used for the analysis enables separation of the different photoproducts and detection at a fmol level. T4 endonuclease treatment was applied to confirm the positions of cyclobutane dimers.

The metabolism of 8-14C-labelled 2'-deoxyadenosine (dAR) and 2'-deoxyguanosine (dGR) has been investigated using lymphocytes in long-term culture transformed by Epstein-Barr (EB) virus (B-cells) from eight patients with different inherited purine enzyme defects. Twenty-two patients with a functioning renal graft and in whom hypertension was resistant to conventional drug treatment were treated with minoxidil. In this investigation, xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) fibroblasts, XP12BE, were uv-irradiated and then incubated with cytosine arabinoside and hydroxyurea for 4 hr to inhibit the polymerase step of DNA excision repair.
