AIM OF THE STUDY: The goal of the present study was to analyse the exclusive use of absorbable suture material (Vicryl) in the fixation of transposed bone segments in cranial vault reshaping without modification of the osteotomy design.
CLINICAL RATIONALE FOR THE STUDY: In the surgical correction of craniosynostosis, bone fixation using osteosynthesis is a key step. Absorbable osteosynthesis is a widespread tool in cranial vault remodelling, but only a limited number of studies have described the use of absorbable sutures in the treatment of patients with craniosynostosis.

AIM: The aim of this experimental study is to investigate the foreign body tissue created by the meshes that are used for rectopexy.
METHOD: Sixty rats were divided equally into 5 groups. Four mesh types (Surgipro, Ivalon, Gore-Tex and Vypro) were implanted into the retroperitoneal area except for the sham group. After a 5-week follow-up period, all animals were sacrificed. Specimens were evaluated macroscopically by using scoring systems and biochemically by determining tissue hydroxyproline and nitric oxide levels.

We report the ultrasonographic and MRI findings of an infected sclerosing lipogranuloma after scrotal hernioplasty. Sclerosing lipogranuloma is a rare foreign-body reaction of fat tissue, with most cases being associated with the genital and urinary tracts. To the best of our knowledge, MRI findings in sclerosing lipogranuloma in the scrotal sac have not yet been published and this is possibly the first study to report the case of an infected sclerosing lipogranuloma in the English literature.

The present report describes the late treatment of obstructive hydrocephalus in a patient in whom all conventional drainage techniques failed due to foreign-body reaction. A combination of subdural autodrainage and the ventriculostoma principle carried out by means of laser surgery was successful in achieving adequate drainage. The patient subsequently showed considerable improvement both clinically and psychologically after the operation. Sixteen months postoperatively the patient is in good health and a computed tomography scan confirmed well-functioning autodrainage.

Monsel's solution applied to biopsy sites causes tissue necrosis that can persist for two weeks and impede reepithelialization. Granulation tissue in the healing phase contains iron pigment residue from the agent. The pigment encrusts upon collagen and is present in siderophages for up to three months. Occasionally pigment or necrotic residues incite a foreign body giant cell reaction. Awareness is recommended in order to avoid confusion. The agent's potential effect upon the basic disease is discussed.

Distal clavicle osteolysis after acromioclavicular joint stabilization has only been described after the use of hardware for clavicle stabilization or synthetic graft causing a foreign body reaction. This paper reports a very rare case of distal clavicle osteolysis after modified Weaver-Dunn procedure for the treatment of chronic acromioclavicular joint dislocation. Calcinosis cutis is a condition of accumulation of calcium salts within the dermis. We are presenting four cases of calcinosis cutis, with different clinical presentations, occurring in healthy individuals, with normal serum calcium and phosphorus levels. Histologically, all cases showed similar morphology, the lesions were composed of large and small deposits of calcium. Foreign-body giant cell reaction was seen in one case. Another case had intact and ruptured epidermal cysts and calcification within the cyst.

Bilateral facial reconstruction using an omental free-flap transfer for soft-tissue augmentation was performed on a 23-year-old man who had undergone previous surgical resection of an embryonal-cell rhabdomyosarcoma followed by radiation and chemotherapy. Eight weeks following surgery, the patient presented with pain and edema from a foreign-body reaction documented by electron microscopy. This was successfully managed with a course of steroid administration. The patient has remained symptom-free for 5 years.

Two cases of Nasitrema sp (Trematoda) infection of the bottlenosed dolphin, Tursiops truncatus, are reported and N. attenuata is briefly redescribed. The adults of the trematode occurring in the nasal sinuses and posterior nasal passage of the dolphins are considered as practically harmless for the host but thier eggs, aspirated deep into the bronchial tree, may initiate a foreign-body of inflammatory reaction in the lungs and continuous aspiration of such eggs may provoke a chronic pneumonia condition.
