Measurement of the quality of mother-infant feeding interactions across the first year: Reliability and stability of the parent-child early relational assessment.

This study examines the psychometric properties of the Parent-Child Early Relational Assessment (PCERA) in the context of mother-infant feeding interaction. Utilizing a longitudinal design, data were collected from 114 mother-infant dyads, including healthy full-term infants and those born prematurely with diagnosed respiratory disease, one group with chronic respiratory disease (Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia) and the second group with acute respiratory disease (Respiratory Distress Syndrome). Observational data were collected at 1, 4, 8, and 12 months post-term age, focusing on parental behavior

Transformation products of sulfonamides in aquatic systems: Lessons learned from available environmental fate and behaviour data.

Sulfonamides (SUAs) and their transformation products (TPs) contribute to environmental pollution. Importance of research on TPs' properties has been emphasised, e.g. allowing a comprehensive environmental risk assessment of their parent compounds. However, TPs' properties have been discussed in reviews on SUAs only marginally, if at all. For the first time, a scientific literature review aims to discuss the current state of knowledge on SUA-TPs including research gaps, and commonalities of SUA-TPs and TPs in general. Literature on SUA-TPs was consulted systematically to collect data on occurr

[Study regarding the parent-of-origin effect of WNT pathway genes on non-syndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate among the Chinese population].

Objective: Non-syndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (NSCL/P) is a common birth defect with its genetic evidence widely explored. This study explored the potential the parent-of-origin (PoO) effect of WNT pathway on the risks of NSCL/P, using a case-parent trio design. Methods: Data on the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) of WNT genes were selected from a genome-wide association study (GWAS). A total of 806 Chinese non-syndromic cleft lip patients, with or without cleft palate (NSCL/P) case-parent trios, were gathered from an international consortium. PoO effect of WNT pathway g

Predictors of caregiver satisfaction with visiting nurse home visits after NICU discharge.

OBJECTIVE: High-risk infants are commonly referred to Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) agencies for post-hospitalization services after discharge from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Little is known about the effectiveness and perceived benefits of routine VNA services for these infants. The objective of this study was to identify factors predictive of family satisfaction with VNA services after NICU discharge. STUDY DESIGN: This is an observational study using data collected from routine quality assurance phone calls to families after NICU discharge. The setting is a single NICU at

ROR2 gene is associated with risk of non-syndromic cleft palate in an Asian population.

BACKGROUND: The receptor tyrosine kinase-like orphan receptor 2 (ROR2) gene has been recently shown to play important roles in palatal development in animal models and resides in the chromosomal region linked to non syndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate in humans. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible association between ROR2 gene and non-syndromic oral clefts. METHODS: Here we tested 38 eligible single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in ROR2 gene in 297 non-syndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate and in 82 non-syndromic cleft palate case parent trios recru

Extended low-resolution structure of a Leptospira antigen offers high bactericidal antibody accessibility amenable to vaccine design.

Pathogens rely on proteins embedded on their surface to perform tasks essential for host infection. These obligatory structures exposed to t … in-like fold generated a vaccine that greatly enhances leptospiral protection over vaccination with single parent domains. Our study demonstrates how understanding an antigen's structure and antibody accessible surfaces can guide the design and engineering of improved recombinant antigen-based vaccines.

Computer assisted instruction for autistic children.

Since the beginning of 1980, Computer-Assisted-Instruction (CAI) has been used systematically in special education. The use of computers in the treatment of autistic children is highly controversial and emotional among parents and professionals. Fears of reinforcing autistic withdrawal are often mixed with insecurity and dislike of new technologies. On the other hand, positive effects of CAI on learning and behaviour are reported by parents and published as single case studies. The following paper relates perception, motivation, communication and behaviour--characteristics of autistic children

Changes in UK parental mental health symptoms over 10 months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

BACKGROUND: The threats to health, associated restrictions and economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic have been linked to increases in mental health difficulties for many. Parents, in particular, have experienced many challenges such as having to combine work with home-schooling their children and other caring responsibilities. Yet, it remains unclear how parental mental health has changed throughout the pandemic or what factors may have mitigated or compounded the impact of the pandemic on parents' mental health. METHODS: We examined monthly survey data from two linked UK-based longi

Varicella pneumonia associated with incomplete vaccination in a patient with trisomy 21: A case report.

Varicella pneumonia is a rare but severe complication of varicella-zoster infection in adults. We present what is, to our knowledge, the first documented case of a 24-year-old woman with trisomy 21 who developed disseminated varicella and varicella pneumonia, likely exacerbated by the absence of childhood varicella vaccination. Her social background, including single-parent upbringing and childhood relocation, contributed to her incomplete immunization history. This case highlights the convergence of immunological and social vulnerability and underscores the need for comprehensive vaccination

Socioeconomic position and adverse childhood conditions in child physical abuse.

Child physical abuse (CPA) is a serious public health concern with lifelong adverse consequences. Socioeconomic position (SEP) is a well-established determinant of adverse exposures. However, evidence of its role as a risk factor for CPA and its interaction with other risk factors remains limited. This study aimed to identify the effect of SEP on CPA and how SEP might condition other risk factors, comparing police-reported and forensically examined children with the background population in Denmark. We extracted register-based data on 356 children who underwent forensic examinations in Copenha

Vaccine hesitancy among parents of adolescents and its association with vaccine uptake.

BACKGROUND: Addressing parental vaccine hesitancy may increase adolescent vaccination acceptance. However, no validated measure exists to identify parents hesitant toward adolescent vaccines. OBJECTIVE: To determine if a modified version of the Parent Attitudes about Childhood Vaccines (PACV) survey, a previously validated tool to identify parental hesitancy toward vaccines in infants, predicts adolescent vaccine uptake at office visits. METHODS: We modified the PACV for use in the adolescent setting and distributed it to a convenience sample of parents of adolescents aged 11 to 17 presentin
