BACKGROUND: Research and awareness on refractive solutions for presbyopia, commonly known as the "Curse of the 40's," is essential as a large population in the world suffer from vision impairments. Population-based surveys have shown that one billion people in the world are in presbyopic age.
PURPOSE: Many structural and physiological changes occur in the eye with the onset of presbyopia, including the decrease in amplitude of accommodation. At present, various static and dynamic techniques have been attempted to give presbyopes good vision at near-, intermediate-, and far-viewing distances.

In this paper, the accuracy of noncycloplegic refractive error measurements performed by three autorefractors, Nidek ARK-510A, Visionix L80 Wave+, and Shin-Nippon NVision-K 5001, compared with subjective refraction (SR) in young adults is analyzed using statistical methods. BACKGROUND: Unilateral spatial inattention (USI) (a.k.a. neglect, unilateral neglect, visual neglect) is a common occurrence after stroke. It can also occur subsequent to traumatic brain injury. Insult to the right inferior (posterior) parietal cortex is the structure that is virtually always involved, although other brain areas have been implicated. The major consequence of USI is that the patient is unaware of one side of the body, and/or one side of visual space. Current literature expresses this as USI in the individual's personal, peri-personal, and extra-personal spaces.

Given the limited resources for medical care, ophthalmologists are increasingly being called on to provide care in a cost-effective manner without compromising quality. This review provides a framework for the difficult task of working up suspected glaucoma in a cost-effective manner. Several new developments in early detection of glaucoma will also be described.

Comparative measures are presented of stereo-acuity by random-dot stereograms using a phase difference haploscope and a Titmus stereogram. Using two groups of fifteen subjects each, one with full binocular vision and the other of small-angle strabismic amblyopes, greater discrimination between subject groups was found with the random-dot stereograms. It is concluded that random-dot stereograms produced by crossed Polaroid would be a more effective clinical means of determining stereo-acuity.

We have examined visual functions, including colour vision, in a patient with bilateral cortical lesions involving mainly the fusiform and lingual gyri, areas known to be involved in the central processing of chromatic stimuli. The patient has near normal (6/9) acuity, and his responses to tests of binocular function and spatial vision are normal, as are his discrimination of changes in target speed and surface lightness.
