BACKGROUND: Management of full-thickness burns over the Achilles tendon is a significant challenge due to poor vascularity, which limits granulation tissue formation and successful grafting. This is even more difficult in patients undergoing chemotherapy, whose wound healing is further compromised due to delayed cell division, migration, and angiogenesis.
CASE REPORT: A 44-year-old male undergoing chemotherapy for retrobulbar glioma sustained a full-thickness scald burn to the entire lower limb below the knee. Despite multiple tangential excisions and successful grafting over most areas, the

BACKGROUND: Achilles tendon ruptures are among the most debilitating injuries in professional basketball, often leading to prolonged absence and long-term performance decline. While calf strains are common among National Basketball Association (NBA) athletes, their role as a precursor to Achilles rupture remains poorly understood.
HYPOTHESIS: A previous calf strain would be associated with increased odds of Achilles tendon rupture in NBA players and that affected players would experience significant post-injury performance declines.
STUDY DESIGN: Case-cohort study; Level of evidence, 3.

BACKGROUND: Medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction is an established treatment for recurrent patellar instability. Techniques requiring patellar drilling (tunnels or sockets for fixation) may increase the risk of iatrogenic patellar fracture.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose was to compare clinical outcomes and complications after MPFL reconstruction using a superficial quadriceps tendon (QT) graft versus a hamstring tendon (HT) graft) fixed with patellar all-suture anchors. It was hypothesized that the superficial QT technique would yield patient-reported outcomes comparable wit

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether early postoperative shear wave elastography (SWE) parameters-specifically absolute stiffness and novel elasticity ratios reflecting regional stiffness gradients-can serve as early biomechanical proxies to predict 12-week functional outcomes.
METHODS: This prospective study included 65 patients (81 tendons) who underwent extensor tendon surgical repair. Conventional ultrasound and SWE were performed one week postoperatively. Absolute shear wave velocities (SWV) were measured at the distal tendon (ROI-1), suture site (ROI-2), and proximal tendon (ROI-3). Elasti…

Patellar tendon rupture is an uncommon but highly treatable injury, with excellent repair outcomes and low reoperation rates. Chronic patellar tendon ruptures or repair failures pose a clinical challenge, but the success rates of reconstruction with extensor mechanism allograft or autograft are reported to be high in the literature. Still, the reconstruction of chronic patellar tendon ruptures can be technically complex and yield inferior outcomes compared with primary repair. A wide array of operative strategies exists to combat these poor results, ranging from Achilles allograft augmentation

Tendon injuries rank among the most prevalent musculoskeletal disorders. Their clinical treatment remains challenging due to the inherently poor self-healing capacity and highly ordered hierarchical architecture of native tendon tissues. In recent years, electroactive fiber-based biomaterials have attracted growing attention in the field of tendon regeneration, attributed to their unique capability to mimic the fibrous microstructure of natural tissues while providing therapeutic electrical stimulation throughout tissue repair. In this review, recent advances in electroactive fibrous scaffolds

BACKGROUND: In relatively young and active patients without glenohumeral arthritis, massive irreparable rotator cuff tears (MIRCT) can be treated with tendon transfer. Arthroscopy-assisted lower trapezius transfer (LTT) for MIRCT needs an allograft such as the Achilles tendon, to bring its attachment to the greater tuberosity. The availability of allografts is limited, particularly in developing countries. The objective of our study is to describe the functional outcomes of arthroscopy-assisted lower trapezius transfer with the peroneus tendon autograft in MIRCT.

Terrible triad injuries of the elbow, which combine posterior dislocation, radial head fracture, and coronoid process fracture, present significant management challenges due to the high potential for instability and stiffness. These injuries require prompt diagnosis and a carefully planned surgical approach to restore joint stability and function. This report describes a complex case involving a 38-year-old male who sustained a terrible triad injury with an uncommon complication of triceps tendon avulsion after a motor vehicle accident. The injury consisted of a comminuted radial head fracture

BACKGROUND: Previous literature has suggested that bone-patellar tendon-bone (BPTB) autograft can be associated with more postoperative anterior knee pain compared to other graft types during anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). This study aimed to compare the differences between patients undergoing ACLR with either BPTB or hamstring (HT) autografts, focusing on 2-year follow-up patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective cohort study of a prospectively collected PROMs database was conducted for 411 patients who underwent primary ACLR between

BACKGROUND: Retrocalcaneal bursitis is often accompanied by insertional Achilles tendinopathy. However, the mechanical effects of bursal effusion remain unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the mechanical impact of retrocalcaneal bursal effusion using Thiel-embalmed cadavers, which are known to exhibit mechanical properties comparable to those in vivo.
METHODS: Ten lower limbs from seven Thiel-embalmed cadavers were examined. Ultrasound-guided injection of the preservation fluid was performed to simulate retrocalcaneal bursal effusion. Ultrasonographic evaluation was conducted under three c

Corticosteroid injection is a widely accepted first-line treatment for trigger finger. However, it carries a potential risk of flexor tendon rupture. This complication is rare, particularly after a single injection. We present a 59-year-old woman who experienced spontaneous ruptures of the flexor digitorum profundus and superficialis tendons of the middle finger 2 months after a single corticosteroid injection for trigger finger. We review the literature and discuss underlying mechanisms for flexor tendon rupture. To minimise the risk of this complication, we recommend administering extra-tend…

Full-thickness skin defects involving tendon or bone exposure present significant clinical challenges owing to inadequate vascularity, which renders spontaneous wound healing unlikely. Conventional treatments using autologous flap transplantation may incur donor-site morbidity. Dermal substitutes are employed to enhance wound bed construction and improve skin graft survival by promoting vascularization and extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition. However, currently available substitutes are predominantly composed of purified bovine- or porcine-derived type I collagen and lack the bioactive compo
