The shortage of cadaveric human organs for transplantation could be alleviated by the use of xenografts. Few cases of psoas abscesses (PA) during chronic Q fever have been reported, and the route of transmission remains unknown. Induction of transplantation tolerance has the potential to allow for allograft acceptance without the need for life-long immunosuppression. Four successful cases of pregnancy after combined pancreas-kidney transplantation at four different centers are summarized. Up to now 73 patients with 101 very severe eye burns have been operated on in our clinic. Thirty-nine patients were treated by a penetrating keratoplasty. A 60-year-old myelodysplastic syndrome patient underwent tandem cord blood transplantation. The primary cord blood graft was rejected, and human herpesvirus 6 (HHV6) encephalitis developed after engraftment of secondary cord blood. Polyuria and adipsic hypernatremia were observed during treatment of the encephalitis. The patient died of bacteremia caused by methicillin-resistant Streptococcus epidermis. HHV6 infection in the posterior pituitary was confirmed on autopsy, as was infection of the hippocampus, but not of the hypothalamus. This is the first case report of central diabetes insipidus
