BACKGROUND: To evaluate the visual and refractive outcomes of intrastromal corneal ring segment (ICRS) in keratoconic eyes at different stages.
METHODS: Two hundred and nineteen keratoconic eyes were divided into three groups as a function of stage of keratoconus (stages I, II and III). There were 115 eyes with stage I, 84 eyes with stage II and 20 eyes with stage III. Snellen uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), best corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), and residual refractive errors analyzed using vector analysis were recorded before surgery and 6 months post-surgery.

Anal fistula repair still remains challenging. Up to 30% of fistulas persist after surgery despite many improvements in surgical skills and technique. One major reason for surgical failure is a persistent fistula track or remnants of the fistula epithelium which could not be removed during surgery. Nine oral and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas were removed with a contact Nd-YAG laser. Clinical and morphological studies on wound healing and effects of the Nd-YAG laser were performed. The hallmark of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is an increased exposure of esophageal and laryngeal mucosa to gastric juice. This exposure can cause complications such as chronic laryngitis or chronic respiratory diseases. We report our experience in managing three pediatric patients with severe recurrent juvenile laryngeal papillomatosis (JLP) associated with GERD. All patients showed a high rate of recurrence requiring multiple laser surgeries. Systemic alpha interferon therapy over a period of more than 1 year and photodynamic therapy with dihematoporphyrin produced no improvement.

We evaluated the microcirculatory status of blackfoot disease by skin temperature measurement, laser Doppler flowmetry and capillary microscopy. The results of these assessments revealed a good correlation between the disease stage and the microcirculatory status. No effective therapy other than surgical amputation was recommended before. In our clinic, as a rule, we do not treat vaginal condylomata. They are usually subclinical and asymptomatic. When atypia is present on biopsy, they should be treated in the same manner as vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia. We report the case of a patient with a previous history of obstructive renal calculus disease who initially presented with a symptomatic calculus in her right mid-ureter, requiring ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy and ureteral stent placement. Shortly after the removal of the stent, the patient was found to have a peri-ureteral abscess, necessitating percutaneous drainage by interventional radiology, and placement of an additional ureteral stent.
