Photothermal Superhydrophobic Textiles: An Emerging Paradigm from Passive Water Repellency to Active Thermal Management.

Photothermal superhydrophobic textiles represent an emerging paradigm integrating active light-driven functionality with passive liquid repellency. While previous reviews treated superhydrophobicity and photothermal effects in isolation, this work pioneers a systematic analysis of their synergistic interplay-a critical, underexplored mechanism where superhydrophobicity preserves photothermal efficiency by minimizing water-induced heat loss, while photothermal activity prevents surface fouling that compromises non-wetting performance. Through detailed case studies of advanced material systems,

The Unholy Trinity: A Hybrid PCI Approach for Left Main Pseudoaneurysm, In-Stent Restenosis, and Acute Myocardial Infarction.

An iatrogenic pseudoaneurysm of the left main coronary artery (LMCA) originating from in-stent restenosis represents an exceedingly rare and life-threatening complication of percutaneous coronary intervention. When such a lesion presents as an ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), it creates a clinical scenario of extraordinary therapeutic complexity. We report the case of a 78-year-old man with a history of complex multivessel percutaneous coronary intervention who presented with an anteroseptal STEMI. His emergent coronary angiogram identified the culprit lesion as critical in-stent re

Radiosensitivity and delayed radiation-induced nucleo-shuttling of the ATM protein in fibroblasts from Duchenne muscular dystrophy expressing residual dystrophin.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is the most common and severe muscle disorder in children, primarily affecting boys, with an incidence of 1 among 5000. This X-linked recessive disease is marked by progressive muscle wasting, leading to loss of ambulation, respiratory impairment, and cardiomyopathy, with symptoms appearing between ages 2 and 5. While advances in care have extended the life expectancy of DMD patients to 30-40 years, cardiac and respiratory failure often leads to mortality by age 40. DMD is caused by mutations in the DMD gene, encoding the dystrophin protein, essential for musc

Contemporary Concise Review 2025: Asthma.

Asthma research in 2025 further advanced a multidimensional view of asthma, integrating disease trajectory, exacerbation risk, structural airway changes, comorbidities, and treatment responsiveness. In mild asthma, studies published in 2025 further reinforced the importance of anti-inflammatory reliever strategies over SABA-only treatment by supporting timely inhaled corticosteroid delivery at symptom worsening to reduce exacerbation risk, particularly in adults and adolescents, while providing emerging but still nuanced evidence in child. In severe asthma, the therapeutic focus expanded beyon

Toward Next-Generation Teratology: Understanding Developmental Vulnerability Through Evolutionary and Comparative Genomics.

Teratology, the study of congenital anomalies, has developed from a descriptive discipline into a mechanistic science focused on the proximate causes of developmental defects, meaning how such anomalies arise during development. However, a comprehensive understanding requires not only this mechanistic insight but also an evolutionary perspective on why developmental systems are susceptible to disruption, often following recurring yet diverse patterns. To better grasp this susceptibility, it is important to consider evolutionary contexts, including concepts such as evolutionary trade-offs, envi

Bilateral Cavernous Sinus Thrombosis Secondary to Dental Infection-Induced Sinusitis: A Case Report.

Cavernous sinus thrombosis (CST) is a rare but severe condition that often arises as a complication of head and facial infections. Sinusitis, particularly involving the sphenoid or ethmoid sinuses, is a common precursor. A five-year-old boy presented to the pediatric intensive care unit with fever, ear pain, and eyelid swelling. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed rare bilateral CST with significant intracranial arterial narrowing. Cultures from the ear grew Fusobacterium necrophorum. Subsequent dental examination identified multiple untreated carious lesions, pulpal necrosis, and abscesses. C

Lifelong cognitive and motor outcomes after being born small for gestational age or with fetal growth restriction.

Children born with fetal growth restriction (FGR) or small for gestational age (SGA) face an increased risk of motor and cognitive impairments, although prevalence and severity vary across studies due to differences in definitions, assessment methods, and population characteristics. In recent years, advances in technology and clinical awareness have led to a growing body of research on the relationship between fetal growth and neurodevelopmental outcomes. This mini-review synthesises recent findings on the impact of SGA and FGR on neurodevelopment in preterm and term infants across the lifespa

Sex differences in the developmental programming of cardiovascular and renal risk across the lifespan.

Cardiovascular (CV) disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide, with metabolic disorders nearly doubling CV risk mortality. Although adult lifestyle factors contribute to disease development, increasing evidence supports a critical role for developmental programming in shaping the long-term cardiac health. The developmental origins of health and disease concept, first proposed by Barker, associates low birth weight with increased CV risk in adulthood. Subsequent studies demonstrated that maternal health, including undernutrition, smoking, preeclampsia (PE), autoimmune diseases, and p

Hyperestrogenic imprinting and developmental origins of endometriosis and adenomyosis.

The pathogenesis of endometriosis and adenomyosis remains incompletely understood, and a notable gap persists between the reported heritability and the disease variation explained by identified susceptibility loci. In this manuscript, we showcase key epidemiological and clinical observations-including associations with early menarche, shorter anogenital distance, specific childhood growth trajectories, hypospadias in males, and developmental exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals-that collectively point to the influence of early-life developmental programming. Recent evidence revealing a h

Helikite aerial sensing system: An innovative approach for monitoring construction sites.

This study proposes an innovative Helikite-based aerial sensing system as a reliable aerial monitoring solution for construction sites. Construction site monitoring requires real-time, unobstructed, and long-duration coverage to ensure worker safety and project efficiency, but this remains challenging due to the limitations of existing methods. Key factors contributing to this challenge include: 1) fixed cameras are prone to occlusion and have a restricted range in dynamic construction environments; 2) UAVs are limited by short battery life, limited wind tolerance, and high maintenance costs;

Occult osteophyte fracture as an atypical source of massive hemothorax in diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis: illustrative case.

BACKGROUND: Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) limits spinal mobility, predisposing patients to unstable fractures even following minor trauma. While spinal fractures are a well-documented complication, massive hemothorax remains a rare presentation, particularly when the bleeding source is from the osteophyte fracture site. OBSERVATIONS: An 84-year-old man with DISH, currently on a factor Xa inhibitor, presented after a 2-m fall. Initial imaging revealed a T11 reverse Chance-type fracture and a right hemothorax, notably without associated rib fractures or pulmonary contusions. O

Behavior Regulation Abilities in Children With Prader-Willi Syndrome and Their Impact on Daily Life: At the Crossroads of Cognitive and Emotional Development.

PURPOSE: Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) is a rare, complex, genetic neurodevelopmental disorder that induces a hypothalamic dysfunction with a global developmental delay and specific trajectories. Behavioral and psychiatric disorders are recurrent in PWS, emerging during childhood and varying considerably in their manifestations. This study aimed to gain a better understanding of the relationship between emotion, cognitive and behavioral regulation abilities in children with PWS, and explore the impact on daily life. METHODS: Twenty-five children with PWS aged between 9 and 15 took part in the s

Skeletal muscle in spinal muscular atrophy: Critical insights from pathogenesis to therapeutic strategies.

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic neuromuscular disorder caused by loss of the survival motor neuron (SMN) protein. While SMA was originally viewed as a pure motor neuron disease, it is currently considered a multi-system disorder in which skeletal muscle plays a pathogenic role. Muscular defects, such as impaired myogenesis and mitochondrial dysfunction, contribute to pathogenesis partly independently of denervation. Accumulating evidence suggests that the SMN deficit impairs muscle development from the earliest stages of fetal life, with delayed myotube maturation and modification o

Targeting cutaneous T-cell lymphoma in non-Hodgkin lymphoma: what's new for investigational agents?

INTRODUCTION: Cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCLs) are a rare group of T-cell lymphomas originating from skin-homing T-lymphocytes. While patients with early-stage disease may have an indolent disease course and excellent survival rates, patients with advanced-stage disease and the aggressive leukemic variant Sézary syndrome (SS) have poor outcomes with poor responses to therapy and short durations of response. New and better treatments are urgently needed for these patients. AREAS COVERED: This review describes the current treatment landscape including underlying disease biology, diagnosis and

FORCE: Feature-Oriented Representation with Clustering and Explanation.

Capitalizing latent unobserved structures to improve the accuracy of predictive models has become an active avenue for deep learning research. Most approaches cluster original features to infer latent structures. However, the information gained during the process can often be implicitly derived using sufficiently complex models. Thus, these approaches often provide minimal benefits. We propose a Shapley Additive exPlanations-based supervised deep learning framework called FORCE (Feature Oriented Representation with Clustering and Explanation), which relies on two-stage usage of SHAP values in

Gastrointestinal manifestations of Parkinson's disease.

Gastrointestinal involvement is common in Parkinson's disease (PD) and symptoms related to gastrointestinal dysfunction may feature prominently, impact on quality of life and compromise nutrition. While all components of the gastrointestinal tract may be involved, drooling, dysphagia and constipation are the most common symptoms. Various factors contribute to the etiology of gastrointestinal dysfunction in PD and include the involvement of skeletal muscles in the oropharynx, pelvic floor and external anal sphincters in the motor dysfunctions that typify this movement disorder, an associated au

New and novel pharmacotherapies for hemophilia A: an update.

INTRODUCTION: Hemophilia A (HA) management has progressed significantly, yet standard and extended half-life (EHL) clotting factors present persistent limitations, including intravenous burden and suboptimal trough levels. AREAS COVERED: This narrative review highlights recently approved agents and phase III candidates for HA. In replacement therapy, efanesoctocog alfa maintains normal-to-near-normal factor VIII (FVIII) levels weekly by bypassing endogenous von Willebrand factor dependence. In non-replacement therapies, the focus centers on rebalancing agents-the anti-tissue factor pathway in

Precision Medicine in Prolactinomas: From Bench to Bedside.

Lactotroph adenomas (prolactinomas, PRLomas) are the most frequently diagnosed pituitary neuroendocrine tumors and originate from anterior pituitary lactotroph cells. Excess prolactin secretion is the defining feature and typically leads to reproductive/endocrine dysfunction; when lesions enlarge, symptoms related to local compression may also occur. In clinical practice, microadenomas are reported predominantly in women, whereas men more often present with macroadenomas, a distribution that may relate to differences in symptom recognition and time to diagnosis. Current mechanistic data suppor

Disseminated Papulopustular Candidiasis in an Immunocompetent adult: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Candidiasis represents the most prevalent human fungal infection, originating from either endogenous colonization or exogenous acquisition, and encompasses a wide clinical spectrum ranging from localized mucocutaneous disease to disseminated, life-threatening infection. Extensive cutaneous candidiasis constitutes a relatively underrecognized and underreported manifestation, often overlooked in clinical practice. Broadly, Candida infections are classified into invasive disease (deep-seated involvement with or without candidemia) and mucocutaneous forms. Progression of extensive cuta
