BACKGROUND: Although shoulder arthroplasty is less common than knee or hip arthroplasty, the number of procedures being performed is increasing rapidly. The treatment effect is a simple method to measure outcome of joint replacement. The method was applied to measure results of total hip/knee arthroplasty but not yet for shoulder arthroplasty.
METHODS: Included were patients with unilateral cuff arthropathy (Hamada grades > = 2) treated with reversed total shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) in this prospective multicenter study. The patients were assessed with the ASES questionnaire. The treatment e

INTRODUCTION: MRI is a very accurate technique to study the elbow joint, tendon, ligament and chondral structures. In the last years elbow disorders were described by several MR investigators, while we studied MR capabilities in depicting normal elbow anatomy. This investigation might permit the correct differentiation of normal from abnormal MR patterns.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Eleven healthy volunteers (6 men and 5 women, mean age: 27.5 years) were examined. All studies were performed on a 1.5 T imager (Magnetom SP 4000) with two types of receiver: the knee coil was used in 7 volunteers exami

BACKGROUND: It is unknown at which stage of rotator cuff tear the biomechanical environment is altered. The purpose of this study was to determine if a critical rotator cuff tear stage exists that alters glenohumeral joint biomechanics throughout the rotational range of shoulder motion, and to evaluate the biomechanical effect of parascapular muscle-loading.
METHODS: Eight cadaver shoulders were used with a custom testing system. Four progressive rotator cuff tear stages were investigated on the basis of footprint anatomy. Three muscle-loading conditions were examined: rotator cuff only; rota

INTRODUCTION: Osteochondroma, a frequent benign tumor of the bone, is in most cases asymptomatic. Localization in the clavicle is extremely rare. The authors report an isolated case occurring in the coraco-clavicular area responsible for a painful shoulder syndrome evoking rotator cuff tendinitis.
METHODS: A 47 years female patient consulted for painful shoulder syndrome. Pain occurred following an effort and at night. On clinical examination, the area around the coracoid process was tender as was the supraspinatus fossa. Passive anterior elevation of the shoulder was limited to 150 degrees.

Background Shoulder pain is a common musculoskeletal complaint with diverse etiologies involving rotator cuff, labral, and periarticular structures. Accurate imaging is essential for diagnosis and management. Ultrasonography (USG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are widely used modalities, each with distinct advantages and limitations. The aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic performance of USG and MRI in evaluating shoulder pathologies, particularly rotator cuff tears, using surgical or arthroscopic findings as the reference standard where available, and to assess their comple

BACKGROUND: Myofascial tissue plays a critical role in shoulder joint mobility disorders. Myofascial release therapy (MFR) is frequently utilized to restore the extensibility of fascial tissue and is considered beneficial for various clinical conditions such as low back pain and ankle injuries. However, no studies have yet evaluated the effects of MFR on periscapular muscles activation and shoulder mobility in patients with subacromial pain syndrome(SAPS).
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of MFR combined with supervised exercise(SE) and SE alone in patient…

The shoulder may be affected in a large portion of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) worldwide. However, this joint does not receive the attention required during follow-up. Indeed, although numerous clinical tests for diagnosis of a painful shoulder are available, differentiating articular from peri-articular lesions may be difficult in daily practice. Fortunately, the precise diagnosis of shoulder pain in RA has benefited from a reliable imaging modality used to detect its exact origin-ultrasonography (US). This study was aimed at assessing the intra- and inter-observer reliability of

INTRODUCTION: While tuberosity reinsertion significantly improves the short-term functional outcomes of reverse shoulder arthroplasty done for proximal humerus fracture, we do not know how well these results hold over the long term. The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of tuberosity reinsertion on the quality of life of patients and the functional outcomes of the operated limb after a minimum follow-up of 5 years.
METHODS: Sixty-two patients were included. Their mean age at the final review was 79 ± 10 years. The Katz and Lawton scales, Constant score, DASH and SSV were colle

Frequent occupational load handling can result in coxarthrosis. However, it remains unclear whether unilateral lifting and carrying leads to asymmetric hip joint loading, potentially contributing to unilateral coxarthrosis. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate potential asymmetries in hip joint moments during occupational tasks. Twenty healthy subjects performed uni- and bilateral lifting and carrying tasks of different objects weighing 20 kg while three-dimensional motion and ground reaction forces were captured. Time series data of internal hip joint moments of the sagittal, frontal, a

Accurate estimation of upper-limb kinematics is essential for applications such as rehabilitation assessment and assistive robotics, yet remains challenging in real-world scenarios involving occlusion and physical human interaction. While vision-based pose estimation methods have advanced significantly, their ability to recover reliable joint kinematics under such conditions remains unclear. This paper presents a systematic comparison of vision-based and wearable sensing approaches for upper-limb pose estimation during assisted dressing tasks. BACKGROUND: The treatment for acromioclavicular joint injuries (ACJI) ranges from a conservative approach to extensive surgical reconstruction, and the decision on how to manage these injuries depends on the grade of acromioclavicular (AC) joint separation, resources, and skill availability. After a thorough review of the literature, the researchers adopted a simple cost-effective technique of AC joint reconstruction for acute ACJI requiring surgery.
METHODS: This was a prospective single-center study conducted between April 2017 and April 2018. For patients with acute ACJI more than Rockwood

Children affected with brachial plexus birth injury (BPBI) undergo muscle paralysis. About 33% of affected children experience permanent osseous deformities of the glenohumeral joint. Recent evidence suggests that some cases experience restricted muscle longitudinal growth in addition to paralysis and reduced range of motion at the shoulder and elbow. It is unknown whether altered loading due to paralysis, muscle growth restriction and contracture, or static loading due to disuse is the primary driver of joint deformity after BPBI. This study uses a computational framework integrating finite e
