Comparison of mitral valve dimensions and motion in mitral valve prolapse with severe mitral regurgitation to uncomplicated mitral valve prolapse and to mitral regurgitation without mitral valve prolapse.

To determine the mitral valve abnormalities associated with hemodynamically important mitral regurgitation (MR) among patients with mitral valve prolapse (MVP), computerized 2-dimensional echocardiographic measurements of mitral leaflet and anular dimensions and motion in 26 patients with MVP and MR were compared to those in 48 subjects with uncomplicated MVP, 16 patients with MR due to etiologies other than MVP (rheumatic in 8) and 35 normal adults. Compared to both uncomplicated MVP and normal subjects, patients with MVP plus MR were older (p less than 0.05), had strikingly large mitral leaf

Reduction of Motion Artifacts in Cardiorespiratory Vital Signs as Oxygen Saturation and Non-Invasive Blood Pressure Through Redundant Denoising and Adaptive Filtering Methods for Wearable Healthcare Monitoring Systems.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Chronic cardiovascular diseases have motivated the development of wearable systems capable of continuously monitoring physiological variables such as oxygen saturation (SpO 2 ) and non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP). However, motion artifacts remain one of the main limitations affecting the reliability of these measurements in ambulatory environments. This article presents a novel framework for motion artifact reduction in photoplethysmography (PPG) and NIBP signals based on redundant sensing, inertial measurements, ECG-guided temporal synchrony, and multichannel s

Successful detection of postoperative improvement of dynamic sagittal balance with a newly developed three-dimensional gait motion analysis system in a patient with iatrogenic flatback syndrome: A case report.

A 75-year-old Japanese woman with Parkinson's disease complained of lower back pain and gait disturbance because of iatrogenic flatback syndrome. The preoperative global spinal parameters were as follows: C7SVA, 168 mm; TK, 52°; LL, -0.8°; PI, 57°; PT, 55°; TPA, 60°. We performed 3D gait analysis using a VICON System and calculated the dynamic SVA. Preoperatively, her flexion deformity gradually progressed during walking. The dynamic parameters gradually increased as follows: thoracic SVA, 216-241 mm; lumbar SVA, 53-69 mm; spinal SVA, 270-311 mm. We performed two-stage corrective surgery. Her

Development and Validation of the Total HUman Model for Safety (THUMS) Version 5 Containing Multiple 1D Muscles for Estimating Occupant Motions with Muscle Activation During Side Impacts.

Accurate prediction of occupant head kinematics is critical for better understanding of head/face injury mechanisms in side impacts, especially far-side occupants. In light of the fact that researchers have demonstrated that muscle activations, especially in neck muscles, can affect occupant head kinematics, a human body finite element (FE) model that considers muscle activation is useful for predicting occupant head kinematics in real-world automotive accidents. In this study, we developed a human body FE model called the THUMS (Total HUman Model for Safety) Version 5 that contains 262 one-di

Design of the muscles in motion study: a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the efficacy and feasibility of an individually tailored home-based exercise training program for children and adolescents with juvenile dermatomyositis.

BACKGROUND: Juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM) is a rare, often chronic, systemic autoimmune disease of childhood, characterized by inflammation of the microvasculature of the skeletal muscle and skin. Prominent clinical features include significant exercise intolerance, muscle weakness, and fatigue. Despite pharmacological improvements, these clinical features continue to affect patients with JDM, even when the disease is in remission. Exercise training is increasingly utilized as a non-pharmacological intervention in the clinical management of (adult) patients with chronic inflammatory condition

Effects of Telerehabilitation Based on Motion Recognition Technology on Exercise Endurance of Patients With Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer After Surgery: Single-Center, Prospective, Open-Label, Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for approximately 85% of primary pulmonary neoplasms. Complete surgical removal remains the cornerstone of curative therapy, yet it frequently diminishes residual lung function and exercise tolerance. Structured, center-based rehabilitation hastens physiological recovery, but conventional schemes rarely deliver continuous, patient-specific monitoring. Remote, digitally delivered exercise overcomes logistical obstacles; however, the lack of real-time quality assurance curtails effectiveness. Wearable motion capture platforms that provide m
