Predictors of Hospital Admissions for Ventricular Arrhythmia or Cardiac Arrest in Patients With Cardiomyopathy.

Although ventricular dysfunction is associated with the occurrence of ventricular arrhythmia (VA), most patients with cardiomyopathy do not experience VA. We therefore investigated other predictors of VA in a large contemporary cohort of patients with cardiomyopathy. All patients at a large academic medical system with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≤50% were enrolled at the time of first documented low LVEF. Predictors of hospital admission for VA were examined using multivariable Cox models. The incidence of implantable defibrillator (ICD) placement was also examined. A total of 1

Barlow disease: effect of mitral valve repair on ventricular arrhythmias in 82 patients in a retrospective long-term study.

BACKGROUND: Patients (pt) with mitral valve prolapse (MVP) due to Barlow disase (BD) have an increased incidence of ventricular arrhythmias (VA; including ventricular tachycardias VT) and sudden cardiac death (SCD). Data on the effect of MV repair on VA are scarce. METHODS: Pre- and postoperative VA in severe mitral regurgitation (MR) with MVP due to BD undergoing surgical mitral valve repair were analyzed. Patients with degenerative mitral valve disease not fulfilling BD criteria were excluded. Information was from charts, ECG/Holter ECG and/or pacemaker/ implantable cardioverter defibrillat

Cardiac Outcomes in Adults With Mitochondrial Diseases.

BACKGROUND: Patients with mitochondrial diseases are at risk of heart failure (HF) and arrhythmic major adverse cardiac events (MACE). OBJECTIVES: We developed prediction models to estimate the risk of HF and arrhythmic MACE in this population. METHODS: We determined the incidence and searched for predictors of HF and arrhythmic MACE using Cox regression in 600 adult patients from a multicenter registry with genetically confirmed mitochondrial diseases. RESULTS: Over a median follow-up time of 6.67 years, 29 patients (4.9%) reached the HF endpoint, including 19 hospitalizations for nontermi

Tricuspid Annular Plane Systolic Excursion (TAPSE) correlates with mean pulmonary artery pressure especially 10 years after pediatric heart transplantation.

Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) is important in the noninvasive echocardiographic assessment of right heart function. This retrospective observational study shows correlations of TAPSE with invasive right heart catheterization parameters after pediatric heart transplantation (HTx). The study included patients after pediatric HTx with cardiac catheterizations in 2018/2019 and measurement of TAPSE (n = 52 patients with 57 examinations; 50.9% adults, 52.6% female, median age: 18.54 years). TAPSE was compared with normal values. Stepwise, linear and multiple regression were used

Prognostic value of strain by feature-tracking cardiac magnetic resonance in arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy.

AIMS: Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is characterized by ventricular dysfunction and ventricular arrhythmias (VA). Adequate arrhythmic risk assessment is important to prevent sudden cardiac death. We aimed to study the incremental value of strain by feature-tracking cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (FT-CMR) in predicting sustained VA in ARVC patients. METHODS AND RESULTS: CMR images of 132 ARVC patients (43% male, 40.6 ± 16.0 years) without prior VA were analysed for global and regional right and left ventricular (RV, LV) strain. Primary outcome was sustained VA duri

Angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor in symptomatic patients with Duchenne dilated cardiomyopathy: A primetime.

AIMS: Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is an X-linked recessive neuromuscular disorder, characterized by significant long-term cardiac involvement. Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is the main cause of death in DMD, and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi) and beta-blockers (BB) are first-line treatments in DCM. It is unknown whether angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitor (ARNi) could provide greater benefits in this setting. Our aim is to assess whether ARNi use may prevent deterioration in ejection fraction (EF) or is associated with EF improvement compared with ACEi in DMD patien

Protective Effect of CXCR4 Antagonist DBPR807 against Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in a Rat and Porcine Model of Myocardial Infarction: Potential Adjunctive Therapy for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.

CXCR4 antagonists have been claimed to reduce mortality after myocardial infarction in myocardial infarction (MI) animals, presumably due to suppressing inflammatory responses caused by myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury, thus, subsequently facilitating tissue repair and cardiac function recovery. This study aims to determine whether a newly designed CXCR4 antagonist DBPR807 could exert better vascular-protective effects than other clinical counterparts (e.g., AMD3100) to alleviate cardiac damage further exacerbated by reperfusion. Consequently, we find that instead of traditional continuo
