Azathioprine is used in the treatment of thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy, but its effectiveness has not been evaluated. In the present study 20 patients with moderately severe ophthalmopathy were recruited; 10 patients received azathioprine and the other 10 matched patients served as controls. During the treatment period (lasting 1 year) and 1 year later, no changes were detected in exophthalmometer readings, visual acuity or measurement of palpebral aperture. An Afghan national having bullous pemphigoid, developed itching and erythema -on the medial side of his feet 3 days after institution of treatment with azathioprine. The lesions subsided on withdrawing azathioprine but recurred at the same sites within 14 hours of provocation with 25 mg azathioprine.

We report a case of neutropenic ulceration in a 42-year-old woman receiving azathioprine for pemphigus vulgaris. She developed multiple indolent ulcers involving the nose, neck, and back, after about 6-8 weeks following commencement of azathioprine 50 mg daily. The ulcers were large, disfiguring, dry, and with basal necrotic slough. They were painless and did not discharge pus. Severe cholestatic jaundice occurred in two patients receiving prednisolone and azathioprine, one for chronic progressive hepatitis, the other for Wegener's granulomatosis. Reversible abnormal liver function, involving both elimination and synthesis, was in the foreground clinically. Signs of parenchymal-cell damage were only moderately severe. However, there is no study on contamination and exposure during AZA tablet splitting and dispensing. BACKGROUND: Pure Red Cell Aplasia (PRCA) is a clinical entity comprising severe normochromic normocytic anemia, reticulocytopenia, erythroblastopenia in the bone marrow, with normal leukocyte and platelets count. HISTORY AND ADMISSION FINDINGS: A 49-years-old female with a history of multiple sclerosis and on medication with azathioprine over 5 years amounting to a cumulative dosage of 45 g presented with fatigue and sinus tachycardia.
