Endovascular treatment of a type IA endoleak was conducted using a Nellix chimney graft technique for an expanding abdominal aortic aneurysm in an 84-year-old man. During the procedure, a polymer leak occurred from one of the endobags. Postoperatively, the patient developed hemodynamic instability and a swollen leg on the side of the leaking endobag, resulting in a fatal outcome.

Disseminated fusariosis is an uncommon clinical condition in immunocompromised patients. We report a fatal case of disseminated fusariosis secondary to neuroblastoma in a male patient, 15 years old, who underwent a bone marrow transplant. Primary pulmonary lymphoma is rare. The most common histological type is the bronchus-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. Of the six known species of Listeria, Listeria monocytogenes is classified as the only human pathogen causing listeriosis, a highly fatal, opportunistic infection contracted via food. Listeria ivanovii is the only other pathogenic species of the genus and is considered to be specific to ruminants, except for extremely rare cases of infection in humans. We report here on a 64-year-old male patient with L. ivanovii who responded favorably to treatment with intravenous ampicillin.

Death resulted from the delayed onset of the acute respiratory distress syndrome and disseminated intravascular coagulation with left ventricular mural thrombus formation and nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis approximately five days after an alleged attempted suicide by the ingestion of ten to twelve prolonged-action Ru-Tuss tablets. Although these lesions are thought to be similar in pathogenesis, this combination has not been previously reported in association with a drug overdose. The delay in onset is also of interest because of its clinical implications.

A 13-year-old boy with a mild limb girdle muscular weakness had a massive rhabdomyolysis and cardiac arrest after general anesthesia. A congestive cardiomyopathy then developed. Muscle biopsy revealed an unspecific "myopathic" degeneration of muscle fibers and a slight accumulation of lipid droplets. Carnitine content was markedly reduced in muscle and moderately in plasma. Both prednisone and carnitine therapies were unable to improve the heart insufficiency, and the patient died 1 year after the acute episode of rhabdomyolysis.
