Bimanual angle surgery: Gonioscopy-assisted canaloplasty and transluminal trabeculotomy using an illuminated microcatheter.

This manuscript presents an innovative technique for performing an ab interno canaloplasty and transluminal trabeculotomy using the iTrackTM Advance (Nova Eye Medical), an advanced illuminated microcatheter specifically designed for ab interno canaloplasty. Unlike traditional methods, this procedure does not require forceps to advance the microcatheter; instead, it uses the slider system of the device for smooth, continuous movement of the catheter. The technique integrates viscodilation of Schlemm's canal and the possibility of creating a trabeculotomy with a hands-free goniolens, allowing th

Circumferential gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy as first-line treatment for primary congenital glaucoma.

Gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT), especially suture-GATT, has been gaining acceptance widely among pediatric glaucoma surgeons because of its ability to lower intraocular pressure while treating the whole of the trabecular meshwork in a single session and its cost-effectiveness. To date, its use in congenital glaucoma patients has been discussed less in the literature, with some studies based on heterogenous populations. We report our preliminary results of suture-GATT performed in 40 eyes of a homogenous cohort of 25 primary congenital glaucoma patients.

The detection of post-traumatic angle recession by gonioscopy in a population-based glaucoma survey.

BACKGROUND: Blunt trauma is responsible for most eye injuries in urban populations. Anterior chamber angle recession has been reported to be the most common sign of previous blunt trauma to the eye. The cumulative lifetime prevalence of post-traumatic angle recession has not been reported previously, and the relation between angle recession and glaucoma in a population-based setting is unknown. METHODS: As part of a population-based glaucoma survey, gonioscopy was performed on 987 (82.7%) of 1194 inhabitants of the village of Mamre, near Cape Town, South Africa, who were 40 years of age or ol…

Visualization of the Postoperative Position of the Hydrus® Microstent Using Automatic 360° Gonioscopy.

Introduction: Glaucoma, one leading cause of irreversible vision loss worldwide, is primarily caused by elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). Recently, minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGSs) have become popular due to their shorter surgical times, tissue-sparing nature, and faster recovery. One such MIGS, the Hydrus® nickel-titanium alloy Microstent, helps lower IOP by improving aqueous humor outflow. The NIDEK GS-1 automated 360° gonioscope provides advanced imaging of the chamber angle for evaluation and documentation. The aim of this study was to test automated 360° gonioscopy for the…

Gonioscopy-Assisted Transluminal Trabeculotomy (GATT) in Postpenetrating Keratoplasty Steroid-induced Glaucoma: A Case Report.

Glaucoma following penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) remains the leading cause of blindness following PKP. Patients with post-PKP glaucoma can be managed medically and surgically. Evidence studying glaucoma surgical techniques following PKP is limited, but suggests the possibility for high-risk complications, including graft failure. Minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries offer an alternative. We report the first case of post-PKP glaucoma managed with gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT). The patient was a 33-year-old man with a history of keratoconus who underwent PKP in his righ…

[Safety and efficacy of gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT) - A single-center retrospective study].

Glaucoma is a major cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. Many glaucoma patients will require surgical intervention during their lifetime, and traditional surgery carries risks and a significant failure rate. Transluminal trabeculotomy assisted by gonioscopy (GATT) is a minimally invasive glaucoma surgery aimed at reducing complication rates while lowering intraocular pressure. GATT is indicated for the treatment of primary and secondary open-angle glaucoma in adults and children. It is particularly suitable for cases involving secondary trabecular meshwork alterations, such as uveitic gl…
