The aim of this study was to explore the effect of sirolimus (Sir) and tacrolimus (Tac) on islets implanted into a subcutaneous (SC), prevascularized device in syngeneic rats. We present the case of a 60-year-old woman with drug-induced aplastic anaemia with a healthy monozygotic twin. Proof of monozygosity was confirmed by studies using the hypervariable minisatellite probe to obtain identical DNA fingerprints in donor and recipient. Urethral reconstruction with a bladder mucosal free graft offers several advantages for patients with complex hypospadias. We report a case in which identical twins circumcised at birth presented with mid-shaft hypospadias and chordee. A bladder mucosa graft was harvested from 1 twin, divided and used to form 2 neourethras. The donor twin underwent hypospadias repair, followed immediately by repair in the second twin with the isograft neourethra. To our knowledge this is the first reported case of bladder mucosal transplantation for hypospadias repair.

Transplantation of isolated islets of Langerhans has been suggested as a treatment of certain forms of diabetes mellitus. Injection of 200-400 syngeneic pancreatic islets isolated by collagenase digestion into the pancreas or submandibular gland of diabetic rats rendered most of the hosts nearly normoglycaemic. Blood glucose determinations were monitored for 2 months after islet transplantation. Although intrapancreatic and intrasubmandibular implantation reduced hyperglycaemia and polyuria in these animals, consistent normal values were rarely achieved.
