Incidental detection of polysplenia associated with situs inversus totalis in an adult is rarely reported in literature.12 "Heterotaxy" refers to a wide spectrum of anomalies involving dysmorphism of thoracoabdominal organs across the right-left axis of the body. Polysplenia is observed in left isomerism along with bilateral bilobed bronchi and bilateral morphologic left atria. However, in this case, polysplenia was present without isomerism.

OBJECTIVE: Large-airway tumors and tumorlike conditions are uncommon, but a systematic approach aids in narrowing the differential diagnosis. In this article, we describe an approach to dealing with large-airway lesions and discuss their imaging characteristics and clinical presentations.
CONCLUSION: We have found it useful to separate these entities into groups on the basis of the distribution pattern (focal vs diffuse) and location (trachea vs bronchi).

We report the case of a glomus tumor originating in the left main bronchus diagnosed in a 79 year old Caucasian man. A glomus tumor is an extremely rare neoplasm in the bronchi with nonspecific clinical features. Bronchoscopy allows the diagnosis through biopsy and subsequent histopathological examination of the tissue and in selected cases may represent a valid alternative to surgery permitting a radical tumor excision.

Hemoptysis is the expectoration of blood or blood tinged sputum from the bronchi, larynx, trachea or lungs. The etiology of hemoptysis is best categorized from the various system or site of bleeding. The management of hemoptysis begins with an initial assessment of gas exchange and hemodynamic stability followed by an identification of the cause by means of fiberoptic bronchoscopy, and chest imaging studies to attain cessation of bleeding and to prevent future recurrence.

Electrical field stimulation evoked a biphasic contraction of the guinea-pig isolated bronchi, consisting of a cholinergically mediated fast contraction followed by a non-cholinergically mediated slow contraction. Catecholamines, beta 2-stimulants, methylxanthines, antiallergic drugs, narcotic and non-narcotic antitussive drugs inhibited the neurogenic contractions not only by postjunctional depression of the response but also by prejunctional reduction of the transmitter release.

Five cases of the rarely observed maxillary sinus mucocele are reported, one patient with bilateral lesions presenting primary dilatation of the bronchi. A previous history of surgery or injury to sinuses was obtained in all cases, the diagnosis being confirmed by computed tomography imaging. Recovery is usually complete after the Caldwell-Luc operation. One case with exclusion of the sinus is described and the literature reviewed.

A girl with the characteristic abnormalities of Larsen's syndrome is presented. A soft flabby consistence of the cartilaginous skeleton of the larynx and trachea was thought to be the cause of attacks of respiratory failure which suddenly caused her death at the age of 9 months. Microscopy revealed a considerably reduced number of elastic fibres in the larynx, trachea and bronchi. Closed reduction of the knee dislocation by skin traction seemed to be successful.
