"Give us a chance": recommendations from Black women living with HIV multimorbidity.

Black women with HIV Multimorbidity (i.e., living with HIV and two or more chronic health conditions) face unique barriers to care management. However, their perspectives are lacking in terms of medical and psychosocial intervention design, implementation, and evaluation. This qualitative study used disaggregated data from a community-engaged research project to identify the unique needs and experiences of Black women living with HIV multimorbidity to provide better care management. In-depth interviews were conducted with 29 Black women living with HIV multimorbidity aged 29-65 years. Particip

Overview of chytrid emergence and impacts on amphibians.

Chytridiomycosis is an emerging infectious disease of amphibians that affects over 700 species on all continents where amphibians occur. The amphibian-chytridiomycosis system is complex, and the response of any amphibian species to chytrid depends on many aspects of the ecology and evolutionary history of the amphibian, the genotype and phenotype of the fungus, and how the biological and physical environment can mediate that interaction. Impacts of chytridiomycosis on amphibians are varied; some species have been driven extinct, populations of others have declined severely, whereas still other

Protocol for a Parallel Group Randomized Clinical Trial Comparing a Culturally Adapted Cognitive Behavioral Telerehabilitation Intervention to Usual Physical Therapy for Latino Patients With Chronic Spine Pain.

OBJECTIVE: Disparities exist in health care access, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic pain in Latino populations and other minority populations. Cognitive behavioral-based physical therapy (CBPT) interventions have been shown to be effective in predominantly non-Hispanic white populations with chronic spine pain. However, there is a need for culturally adapted CBPT interventions that focus on the conservative management of chronic spine pain. The primary purpose of the study described in this protocol is to test the efficacy of an adapted cognitive behavioral-based hybrid telerehabilitation

Health hazards associated with LNG tank truck transportation accidents in China: a text-mining analysis of accident reports and risk-management implications.

LNG tank truck accidents can expose drivers, emergency responders, road users, and nearby populations to cryogenic release, fire, explosion, and oxygen-deficient environments, creating potentially serious health hazards. This study analyses 52 LNG tank truck transportation accident cases reported in China during 2015-2024 to examine whether a reproducible text-mining workflow can complement manual accident review and support health-hazard identification. The reports were segmented into 1,707 analytical text units, of which 1,393 valid units were retained after preprocessing. TF-IDF was used to

Epidemiology of anemia in the elderly: information on diagnostic evaluation.

A rise in the aging population has been predicted, and, as a result, it is expected that the incidence of age-related health conditions will also increase. Although common in the elderly, anemia is often mild and asymptomatic and rarely requires hospitalization. However, untreated anemia can be detrimental, because it is associated with increased mortality, poor health, fatigue, and functional dependence and can lead to cardiovascular and neurological complications. Several factors have been suggested to cause anemia in this population, for example, blood loss or chronic disease. In some cases

Sodium and fluid management in the conservative management of chronic kidney disease.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) imposes a significant global health burden. In the United States, one in three adults are at risk for CKD currently affecting over 28 million Americans. While several studies have demonstrated the benefit of treating traditional risk factors in CKD, including hypertension with pharmacologic agents such as blockade of the renin-angiotensin system (RAAS), there is scarce data on the advantages of sodium and fluid management in this population. Both experimental and observational studies have shown improvement in hypertension and cardiovascular outcomes with sodium re

Bridging Health Disparity Gaps in Alzheimer's Disease among Marginalized Populations: Clinical Proteomics as a Case Study.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) and AD-related dementias (ADRD) represent a significant health challenge, with a growing impact on marginalized populations who often experience inequities in overall healthcare access and outcomes. Many factors contribute to these inequalities and can impact the benefits of broad appreciation of new technologies in AD/ADRD to these populations. For example, clinical proteomics offers a promising avenue for early and timely detection of disease and elucidation of the mechanisms of AD/ADRD. Unfortunately, gaps exist in the access and application of proteomic innovations

Causes of death of adults and elderly and healthcare-seeking before death in rural Bangladesh.

The health system of a country needs to be adjusted to patterns of morbidity and mortality to mitigate the income-erosion consequences of prolonged ill-health and premature death of adults. Population-based data on mortality by cause are a key to modifying the health system. However, these data are scarce, particularly for rural populations in developing countries. The objectives of this study were to determine the burdens of health due to major causes of death obtained from verbal autopsy of adults and the elderly and their healthcare-seeking patterns before death in a well-defined rural popu
