A 44-year-old man was hospitalized because of right-sided abdominal pain and fever. On admission, he presented spike fever, jaundice, and renal failure. Abdominal ultrasonography and computed tomography showed extensive thrombus in the portal vein. Anaerobic bacteria were identified in arterial and portal blood cultures. This report describes a case of spontaneous ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) occurring in a pregnant woman carrying the factor V Leiden mutation. The effects of roxithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic, on neutrophil activities were investigated in six seriously handicapped patients with severe mental retardation. Neutrophil activities were evaluated by flow cytometry using a heparinized blood analysis method. All six patients showed decreased levels of neutrophil phagocytosis, intracellular killing, and CD11b expression. Venography was performed in 25 legs of 17 patients using digital subtraction angiography (DSA). Reliable diagnoses of deep vein thrombosis or patency were made in the majority of these cases. There were no complications. Arterial aneurysms are uncommon in the course of Behcet's disease and are associated with a poor prognosis owing to the risk of rupture. Chloroquine forms complexes with polyanions as does the metachromatic dye pseudoisocyanine. This phenomenon can be used to show chloroquine binding to polyanions.
